Vettel komt met speciaal initiatief in Saoedi-Arabië: "Hebben dit gedaan zodat hun vertrouwen groeit"

Dit weekend staat de Grand Prix van Saoedi-Arabië op het programma. De gloednieuwe race is veelbesproken. Het land staat immers niet bepaald bekend om zijn goede mensenrechten en de kritiek op de wedstrijd is dan ook zeker niet mals. Enkele coureurs trekken hun stoute schoenen aan en kaarten de problemen aan.

Regerend wereldkampioen Lewis Hamilton besprak op de persconferentie op de donderdag de rampzalige LHBTQ+ rechten in het land. Ook Aston Martin-coureur Sebastian Vettel liet weer van zich horen. Hij had ,net als in Hongarije, weer zijn regenboogvlag-schoenen aan en hij kwam met een speciaal initiatief.

Ook de vrouwenrechten in Saoedi-Arabië zijn zeer slecht. Vettel bedacht daarop een plannetje. De Duitser wordt geciteerd door Motorsport.com: "Ik heb vandaag mijn eigen karting evenement opgezet onder de hashtag #raceforwoman. Ik denk dat er een groepje van zeven of acht vrouwen en meisjes op de baan was vandaag."

Vertrouwen

Vettel gaf de groep zijn adviezen mee. Hij verklaart zijn evenement: "We hebben vandaag een mooi evenement neergezet alleen voor hen. Ik probeerde een aantal ervaringen uit mijn leven aan hen over te brengen. We hebben dit samen gedaan om er voor te zorgen dat hun vertrouwen kan groeien."

De viervoudig wereldkampioen probeerde te zoeken naar lichtpuntjes in het veel besproken land. "Er is zoveel aandacht voor negatieve dingen als het aankomt op tekortkomingen van sommige landen op het gebied van mensenrechten. Dus ik heb mijn best gedaan om aan de positieve dingen te gaan denken."

Mooi initiatief. Koe bij de horens vatten ipv alleen maar te løllen. Bij Vettel heb ik extra het idee dat het gemeend is, juist omdat hij zelf geen social media heeft en het dus niet om de likes doet.

Altijd een jankerd gevonden die Vettel, zeker tijdens zijn Ferrari periode.
Begin nu wel meer respect voor hem te krijgen, mooi initiatief.
Nog mooier dat hij het niet met een commerciële agenda doet en daarom ook niet tot de laatste druppel hoeft uit te melken.
