Rosberg maakt zich zorgen over veiligheid Jeddah: "Blij dat ik niet in de auto zit"

Dit weekend rijdt de Formule 1 voor het eerst op het Jeddah Corniche Circuit in Saoedi-Arabië. De baan is ongelofelijk krap en ongelofelijk snel, de coureurs genoten overduidelijk van de baan maar het blijft listig. Enkele oud-coureurs houden dan ook hun hart vast voor dit weekend.

Enkelvoudig wereldkampioen Nico Rosberg maakt voor zijn YouTube-kanaal regelmatig een analyse over het circuit waar de sport dat weekend gaat rijden. De Duitser rijdt dan een rondje op de simulator en schrok zich een hoedje toen hij digitaal het Saoedische asfalt op reed.

Geschift

Rosberg wist niet wat hij meemaakte. In zijn video reageert hij vol verbazing: "Ik heb net een paar rondjes gereden op de simulator. Geloof me, dit circuit is compleet geschift. Het is zo snel, er zijn geen uitloopzones. Er is een bocht aan het einde van de baan waar je in de achtste versnelling rijdt, terug moet schakelen naar de zevende versnelling en dan is de bocht alsnog vol gas. Dan kijk je naar rechts en dan staat er een muur."

Hoog risico

De voormalige Mercedes-coureur maakt zich dan ook zeker wat zorgen. Een crash op dit circuit is immers gelijk een kiezelharde, dat ondervond Charles Leclerc in de tweede vrije training op het circuit.

Rosberg spreekt zijn angsten dan ook uit: "Dit wordt echt gekkenwerk. Het is echt gek. Eerlijk gezegd is het zo bizar dat ik blij ben dat ik niet in de auto zit voor dit weekend. Dit ziet eruit als een circuit met een hoog, hoog risico. Het is één van die keren dat ik denk van, blij dat ik niet in de auto zit. Het wordt opwindend om te zien hoe ze hier mee omgaan. Hopelijk blijft iedereen veilig."

Iedereen maakt zich druk om de veiligheid en eventuele crashes, om vervolgens een weekend te hebben met maar één crash; die van LeClerc.

Mazepin had bijna Lewis geelimineerd.......en de uitgang van de pitsstraat wordt ook een dingetje.
Vrije lucht is hier belangrijker dan ooit, want een auto volgen in die snelle bochten zal niet gaan, dus inhalen....ik ben benieuwd.
