Opmerkelijk: Nieuwe FIA-baas knalt bij F1-demo keihard in pitsmuur

Mohammed Ben Sulayem (60) is de opvolger van Jean Todt als president van de FIA, de overkoepelende autosportbond. De leidsman is geboren in Dubai, Verenigde Arabische Emiraten (VAE), op 12 november 1961.

Een onbekende in de motorsport is hij niet. Ben Sulayem was een verdienstelijk rallyrijder, voornamelijk actief in het Midden-Oosten. Zo won de Emiraat daar verschillende  rally's, zoals die van Dubai, VAE, Qatar en Bahrein. Ook in de World Rally Championship, in groep N, zegevierde Sulayem in twee rally's, waarvan één in Argetinië en één in Catalunya.

Toch wordt de belangrijkste man van de FIA voornamelijk herinnerd aan een merkwaardige crash tijdens een F1-demo in een Renault. Dit incident gebeurde in 2009 op het circuit in Dubai. Hieronder de beelden:

    Hij zal ook vast weleens een rally auto hebben gecrasht. Daarnaast goede voetballers zijn niet per se goede trainers. Dat kan hiervoor ook geldend.
