Räikkönen altijd zich zelf gebleven: "Rest kan mij niet interesseren"

De Formule 1 nam dit jaar afscheid van een van zijn markantste personen. Kimi Räikkönen vond het wel mooi geweest en hing zijn helm aan de wilgen. De Finse enkelvoudig wereldkampioen bleef altijd zichzelf en trok daarmee vele miljoenen fans naar zich toe. Ook in zijn laatste jaren was hij onverminderd populair.

Zijn gortdroge reacties, gemopper op de boordradio en zijn prachtige oneliners vielen overduidelijk in de smaak bij het publiek. Zijn team Alfa Romeo speelde daar op in een schreef één van die quotes op zijn wagen voor zijn afscheidsrace in Abu Dhabi. Zelf vond Räikkönen het allemaal wel best.

Eigen manier

Tijdens zijn lange loopbaan bleef hij altijd zichzelf. Hij heeft geen enkel moment nagedacht over het aanmeten van een andere persoonlijkheid. In gesprek met Speedweek is hij daar duidelijk over: "Ik doe dingen op de manier waarop ik denk dat dat goed is. De rest kan mij geen zier interesseren."

Nep gedoe ging er niet in bij 'The Iceman', hij vertikte het dan ook om daar aan mee te doen. Hij denkt dat het zelfs niet vol te houden is. Hij beschrijft het op zijn eigen duidelijke wijze: "Natuurlijk kan je je anders voordoen. Dat werkt misschien voor één jaar, heel misschien twee. Maar als je er lang mee bezig bent breekt het je uiteindelijk toch wel op."

Nou Kimi, ik lees net bij de Italianen dat Charles sterk overweegt om je nummer 7 over te nemen (i.p.v. 16)
Hij heeft dit nr schijnbaar in andere series (kart, F3) ook gebruikt.
Nou dacht ik dat je een paar jaar moest wachten alvorens je een nr over mag nemen van een andere coureur maar misschien is dit inmiddels veranderd in de reglementen.
