Vettel ontkent mentorrol voor Schumacher: "Je bent er altijd voor vrienden"

Het is overduidelijk dat de twee Duitse coureurs Sebastian Vettel en Mick Schumacher het goed met elkaar kunnen vinden. De twee trekken veel op en de ervaren Vettel lijkt een soort mentor te zijn voor zijn jonge landgenoot van Haas. De twee krijgen veel complimenten over hun band.

Viervoudig wereldkampioen Vettel kon het ook al goed vinden met Micks vader Michael Schumacher. Het lag dan ook in de lijn der verwachtingen dat ook de band met Mick Schumacher goed zou zijn. De voorspelling kwam uit en de twee zijn veelvuldig samen te zien terwijl ze info uitwisselen of gewoon een balletje trappen.

Verantwoordelijkheidsgevoel

In gesprek met F1-Insider geeft Vettel aan toch geen verantwoordelijkheidsgevoel te hebben. Hij legt het uit: "Nee, dat heb ik niet echt. Natuurlijk is de band er door Michael. Maar Mick komt uit een hele goede familie. Hij is een goed gemanierde jongeman die klaar is om zijn eigen weg te gaan. Hij doet het heel erg goed."

Vrienden

Vettel kent Micks vader redelijk goed en ziet dan ook gelijkenissen. "Zijn werkethiek doet mij denken aan die van zijn vader. Ik wens hem echt een auto toe waarmee hij volgend jaar een goede indruk kan achterlaten. Maar ik ben meer een vriend dan iemand met een verantwoordelijkheidsgevoel. Je bent er altijd voor vrienden. Daarom heb ik geen competitieve gevoelens richting hem en deel ik mijn ervaring."
