Domenicali wacht beslissing Volkswagen met spanning af: "Staat ons belangrijke maand te wachten"

Het zijn spannende weken voor de Formule 1. De grote Volkswagen Group staat immers op de drempel van de koningsklasse van de autosport. Het Duitse concern kan de Formule 1 gaan betreden met hun twee toonaangevende merken Porsche en Audi. Een beslissing laat echter nog steeds op zich wachten.

Het gonst al geruime tijd van de geruchten omtrent Volkswagen. Namens Audi en Porsche waren er vertegenwoordigers aanwezig bij de overleggen over de nieuwe motorregels die in 2026 in gaan. Vorige maand werd duidelijk dat hun wensen waarheid worden dus kan je concluderen dat er geen hindernissen meer in de weg staan voor de komst. Toch is er niet veel duidelijkheid.

Belangrijk

Formule 1-CEO Stefano Domenicali is zich ook bewust van de mogelijke komst van Volkswagen. Hij weet hoe belangrijk deze situatie is voor de sport. Tegenover Sport1 legt hij het uit: "Er staat ons een zeer belangrijke maand te wachten. Dit met betrekking tot de beslissing die de Volkswagen Group zal gaan nemen."

Duitsland

Domenicali denkt dat een mogelijke komst van Volkswagen kan helpen bij een comeback van de Duitse Grand Prix, een grote wens van de Italiaan. Hij weet echter dat Mercedes ook belangrijk is: "Ik hoop dat het een soort extra positief element kan zijn. Mercedes is er natuurlijk ook nog. Ze hebben de constructeurstitel gewonnen en domineren de sport al sinds 2014. Ze hebben acht constructeurstitels gewonnen, dat is nog nooit gebeurd. Alles wat de belangstelling vanuit Duitsland kan aanwakkeren is echt welkom voor ons."

Ik vind het ook leuk wanneer er een motorenfabrikant bij komt, maar is Domenicali hier niet een beetje te blij mee??

Ik kreeg al een beetje de indruk dat ze wel erg mee gingen in de aanpassing van de motorenregels vanaf 2025 om er een fabrikant in te krijgen (lees VW Group). Geeft een beetje de indruk dat VW zou een uitzonderingspositie gaat krijgen......

Deels persoonlijke irritatie van mij ook moet ik eerlijk zeggen. Vind VW-Group ondertussen een heeeel erg onsympathiek clubje geworden (ook persoonlijke ervaring).
