Bahrein wil meewerken aan sprint op Outer Track: "Staan achter alles wat de F1 ons vraagt"

Tijdens het afgelopen seizoen experimenteerde de Formule 1 met de sprintkwalificatie. Het nieuwe format kon niet op veel complimenten rekenen, fans en coureurs waren niet bepaald enthousiast. Toch waren de hoge heren van de sport zelf wél enthousiast en de sprint zal dan ook terugkeren in het aanstaande seizoen. Het is duidelijk dat de plannen zeer ambitieus zijn.

Het is nog niet duidelijk op welke circuits de sprints worden afgewerkt. Volgens meerdere geruchten is de seizoensopener in Bahrein gelijk een sprintweekend. De hoge heren hebben grootste plannen en willen de sprint rijden op de Outer Track-layout. Deze omloop werd in 2020 gebruikt voor de Sakhir Grand Prix omdat er races nodig waren voor het door COVID omgegooide seizoen.

Outer Track

Nu lijkt het er dus op dat de layout weer van stal kan worden gehaald. In Bahrein hebben ze daar geen enkel probleem mee. Circuit-directeur Salman Bin Isa Al-Khalifa wordt geciteerd door Motorsportweek: "In theorie kunnen we dat organiseren, we staan achter alles wat de Formule 1 van ons vraagt. Het is zoals in 2020. Toen vroegen ze ons of we een race konden organiseren op de Outer Track en dat deden we."

Afwachten

Toch wil de directeur niet te hard van stapel lopen. Al-Khalifa wil het eerst allemaal eventjes rustig afwachten. Hij deelt het proces: "Dus ja, we zouden erachter staan. Maar met dit soort dingen ,en ook bij de teams, zijn er altijd vragen over hoe je eerst moet racen op de ene baan en dan op de andere. Dus ik wacht rustig de uitkomsten van die gesprekken af."

Zou wel interessant kunnen zijn. Geen setup veranderingen na de kwalificatie toch? Dan moeten ze kiezen voor snelheid in de sprint en kwalificatie of een iets meer downforce setup voor de race. Doet me een beetje denken aan de compromis van de oude Hockenheimring met de mega lange rechte stukken en dan het langzame stadiongedeelte.

  Of een race waarbij je 30 rondjes op de Outer track rijdt en 30 rondjes op de normale baan. Je mag zelf kiezen wanneer je deze in lost.

  De qauli dan maar doen op de lange afstanden versie die in 2010 ook werd gebruikt? De sprint dan op de outer versie en dan kan de race weer op de normale versie

Dus we starten het seizoen met een zwerende en etterende puist dat zich een kwalificatie mag noemen? Nou.. daar gaat mijn interesse om de eerste race van het jaar te willen zien.
