Honda-kopstuk droomt van terugkeer: "Hoop en verwacht dat het gaat gebeuren"

Red Bull Racing en motorleverancier Honda boekte afgelopen seizoen veel successen in de Formule 1. De Japanse motorleverancier stuwde de Red Bull naar grote hoogte en kopman Max Verstappen werd dan ook wereldkampioen. Toch nam Honda afscheid van de sport, het besluit was immers al veel eerder genomen en aangekondigd.

Honda nam afscheid op een hoogtepunt maar men verwacht dat de Japanners op een zeker moment weer zullen terugkeren. Veel van de werknemers blijven in ieder geval in de sport actief, Red Bull heeft de motoren immers in eigen beheer genomen. Toch is het alsnog de verwachting dat Honda ooit als motorleverancier weer gaat terugkeren.

Comeback

Honda-kopstuk Masashi Yamamoto heeft die verwachting in ieder geval wel. De Japanner genoot van het succesjaar en lijkt niets anders te willen dan een comeback. Tegenover de officiële site van de Formule 1 spreekt hij zich uit: "Persoonlijk hoop en verwacht ik dat Honda terugkeert naar de Formule 1. Het hangt er vanaf of de jonge mensen bij Honda gepassioneerd zijn over de autosport en of ze het management kunnen overtuigen van een comeback. Maar de geschiedenis herhaalt zich dus ik hoop dat het kan gebeuren."

Winnaar

Yamamoto baalt van het vertrek maar is alsnog een enorm trotse man. De Japanner glimt nog steeds van trots na de wereldtitel van Verstappen van vorige maand: "Zelfs als we logistieke problemen hebben ,door de pandemie, hebben we in ons laatste seizoen gewoon gevochten met zeer sterke rivalen. Uiteindelijk kwam we uit de bus als winnaar in de Formule 1 wereld."

  Ik heb het hele interview niet gelezen, maar toch fijn dat zulke belangrijke mensen toch nog ff aan de gewone mens denken.
  
  Dus vindt ik het normaal dat zulke lieve mensen president van Japan én Honda moeten worden.

het gekke is dat de titel van wcd, belangrijker wordt ervaren is dan de titel van het constructeurskampioenschap. Terwijl wanneer je dit logisch bekijkt een belangrijkere titel is. Kan je als team de beste prestaties neerzetten door beide coureurs zo hoog mogelijk te laten eindigen. In principe zou mercedes de morele overwinnaar moeten zijn. Maar zo voelt dat dus absoluut niet
heel bijzonder eigenlijk .

  Bij Mercedes zitten ze nog steeds zo in zak en as, dat het wel lijkt alsof zij zijn gestopt ipv Honda.

  Dat komt door de slechte marketing van Mercedes. Als ze vanaf het behalen van de titel zich als overwinnaars geprofileerd hadden, hadden ze de titel nog uit kunnen buiten. Nu ze zich als verliezers profileren worden ze ook gezien als de grote verliezers. Alles draait op perceptie, feiten zijn ondergeschikt.

Hopelijk zijn ze bij de F1 slim genoeg in te snappen dat Honda een merk van waarde is. De meerwaarde van de VAG-merken mag misschien hoger zijn, maar je hebt met een Honda geen jarenlang gezeik dat ze wel of niet gaan komen en onzin als het aankondigen dat ze gaan nadenken of een overweging misschien logisch is zoals bij VAG.

Als ze Honda weten de paaien, komen die daadwerkelijk. Ook geen onzin als die 200 miljoen voor een licentie.
