McLaren verzet zich tegen opkrikken budgetlimiet vanwege sprintraces

Het team van McLaren vindt de toename van het aantal sprintraces voor 2022 geen aanleiding om het geldende budgetplafond op te hogen. Dat heeft teamdirecteur Zak Brown medegedeeld aan Motorsport-Total.com. De Formule 1 experimenteerde vorig jaar drie maal met een korte kwalificatierace om de grid voor de echte Grand Prix te bepalen en heeft dat concept nu omarmd voor komend seizoen.

In 2022 breidt de koningsklasse van de autosport het aantal sprintraces uit naar zes. Voor sommige teams vormt dat aanleiding om te lobbyen voor een verhoging van het budgetlimiet, dat voor dit jaar op 140 miljoen dollar is ingesteld. Ze achten dat nodig om de kosten te dekken. McLaren zal daar geen medewerking aan verlenen. De Britse renstal vindt dat de renstallen moeten zien om te gaan met wat ze hebben.

Brown legt uit: "Sommige teams willen van de gelegenheid gebruikmaken om het budgetplafond op te krikken. Daar verzetten wij ons tegen, dus dat is een probleem dat we af moeten handelen. De realiteit is dat er vorig jaar weinig schade is gereden in de sprintraces. Daar waren we al vanuit gegaan en het is gebleken dat de teams weinig extra schade hebben opgelopen."

"Een aantal teams pleit nu voor een verhoging van het budgetlimiet, en nog met een flinke bedrag ook, onder het mom van 'wat als we elk weekend een auto af moeten schrijven'. Maar volgens mij heb ik meer ongelukken in vrije trainingen gezien dan tijdens de sprintraces. Voor sommige teams is het misschien nieuw om met een budget om te gaan, maar dat hoort er nu eenmaal bij."

Als je om wat voor reden dan ook, een auto moet afschrijven moet dat niet onder het budgetlimiet vallen. Verstappen heeft afgelopen seizoen buiten zijn schuld om er twee moeten afschrijven.

  Inderdaad Mika Kimi, ik vind ook dat Max ook gewoon zelf alvast het gras op had kunnen gaan om ruim baan te maken voor Hamilton, in plaats van te wachten tot Hamilton hem die kant opstuurde.
  Toonde duidelijk een gebrek aan pro-activiteit bij Max. Duidelijk nog wat onvolwassen randjes die er echt wel snel uit moeten. ;-)

Als voor ieder wissewasje het budget omhoog moet rijzen ze binnen de kortste keren weer de pan uit.
Racen is nu eenmaal risico’s nemen en in de racerij wordt nu eenmaal schade gereden. De ene keer deel je uit en de andere keer ontvang je, maar meestal ben je zelf de oorzaak. Hoort nu eenmaal bij het spelletje, is altijd al zo geweest en zal altijd wel zo blijven.

Het is een mooi streven dat hij hier voor pleit maar in het verleden toen McLaren nog oppermachtig smeten ze ook met geld en toen was er ook al sprake om de budgetten te beperken. Waar ze dan uiteraard tegen waren.

Los van dit verhaal heb ik nog niets gehoord over de regels omtrent het aantal motoren. Drie word nog onrealistischer dan vorig jaar, al deed Honda het buitengewoon goed. Er komt nu weer 400 km bij komend jaar. vier motoren zou realistischer zijn, maar vooral elke straf zwaarder bij elke aanspraak op een nieuwe motor en niet minder ( 10 en opvolgend 5 ). Maar goed, daar had je natuurlijk al eerder mee moeten komen. Het is alweer half Januari.

  Ik heb dit vorig jaar ook al een keer geopperd ;
  4e motor 5 plaatsen gridstraf
  5e motor 10 plaatsen gridstraf
  6e motor 15 plaatsen gridstraf
  7e motor diskwalificatie.
  
  Valt een gridstraf zo dat het meer plaatsen zijn dan de 20 startplaatsen dan schuiven de gridstraf plaatsen door naar volgende race.
  Zoals nu is wordt je beloond als je meer Motoren gebruikt omdat de gridstraf eerst 10 plaatsen en dan 5 plaatsen straf betekent.

  Helemaal mee eens. Uiteraard wel voor onderdelen in de motor natuurlijk, dat zei ik er niet bij. Nieuwe motor is altijd achteraan natuurlijk. Het moet wel oplopen die straffen en niet aflopen, dat is de omgekeerde wereld.
