Albon begonnen aan Williams-avontuur: "Fijn om in de simulator te rijden"

Alexander Albon keert aankomend seizoen weer terug op de grid. De Britse Thai zal aan de start verschijnen voor het team van Williams waar hij George Russell opvolgt. Hij verlaat hierdoor wel de Red Bull-familie maar dat betekent niet dat hij minder gemotiveerd is voor zijn gloednieuwe job.

Gisteren verscheen Albon voor het eerst op de fabriek in Grove. De coureur die onder de Thaise vlag rijdt kon gelijk hard aan de slag nadat hij was teruggekeerd van een trainingskamp in Los Angeles. Hij kon gelijk aan de bak in de simulator van het team en hij kon gelijk kennis maken met zijn gloednieuwe teamgenoten.

Albon zelf genoot van zijn allereerste dag als Williams-coureur. In een persbericht van de legendarische Britse renstal sprak hij zich uit: "Het was fijn om het team te zien na een lange break. Ik ben een aantal keer hallo komen zeggen in de paddock maar dit was echt de eerste keer dat ik het team dat aan de auto werkt kan groeten in hun eigen werkomgeving."

Door de coronacrisis is nog niet al het personeel aanwezig op de fabriek van het team. Toch heeft Albon het naar zijn zin gehad tijdens zijn eerste dag in Williams-dienst: "Natuurlijk leven we nu in vreemde tijden dus het was wat rustiger dan het normaliter zou zijn maar het was fijn om wat tijd door te brengen in de simulator. Het zijn echt fascinerende tijden, het was fijn om gelijk aan de bak te kunnen gaan. Het was fijn om te beginnen aan de ontwikkeling van de auto zodat we hem in het beste mogelijke window kunnen krijgen voordat we de baan opgaan."

Hij brengt pakken ervaring mee dat is een feit. Naast chassis ook de verschillen tussen Honda en Mercedes PU zullen Williams helpen.

Albon is zeer sterk in simulatorwerk, dat is algemeen gekend. Verwacht er veel van nu hij weer de kans krijgt te racen.

Nou leuk, heel het jaar in de RB racesimulator gereden om vervolgens bij Williams zijn eerste werkdag wederom een race af te leggen in een simulator :-)

Ik hoop dat ie straks wat potten kan breken op de baan maar ik heb al zo'n "Badoer" gevoel bij hem; super belangrijk bij testen (in dit geval de simulator) en zeer goed met technische input maar in een race kan ie dat niet (meer) waar maken.

Vanaf nu serveert de kantine bij Williams Thaise hete kip op maandag, gebakken rijst met pittige varkenshaas op dinsdag, overige dagen is nog afhankelijk of iedereen na maandag en dinsdag geen last van de darmen heeft. Britten en heet eten is niet de beste combi. Die gasten kleuren al knalrood als de zon doorbreekt in januari.
Als iemand vindt dat ik nu teveel generaliseer, dan graag klachten onder de streep. Klantenservice zal er vast iets mee doen :-)
