Werkzaamheden Spa-Francorchamps in vergevorderd stadium

Het legendarische circuit van Spa-Francorchamps ondergaat momenteel een grondige verbouwing. De baan in de Belgische Ardennen wordt momenteel op veel punten aangepast om er voor te zorgen dat er in de nabije toekomst ook weer motorraces kunnen worden georganiseerd op het circuit. Ook om de baan heen vinden flinke werkzaamheden plaats, tribunes worden aangepakt en de infrastructuur was verouderd.

De baan kreeg de afgelopen jaren steeds meer kritiek te verduren. Zo zou het circuit te gevaarlijk zijn, gebaseerd op meerdere heftige ongelukken in het verleden. Het circuit wordt dan ook op meerdere plekken voorzien van grotere uitloopstroken en meer grindbakken, ook omdat dit nodig is om de juiste vergunning te krijgen voor de motorraces.

Grindbakken

Momenteel is met bezig met het aanleggen van meerdere nieuwe grindbakken en uitloopstroken op het circuit. Zo wordt er in Bruxelles een grindbak aangelegd ter vervanging van de uitloopstrook die daar voorheen lag. In Blanchimont wordt de uitloopstrook ook uitgebreid. In het eerste gedeelte van de bocht wordt ook een nieuwe grindbak aangelegd. Ook in de bekende eerste bocht La Source worden de nodige veranderingen doorgevoerd. Daarnaast worden er in meerdere bochten nog aanpassingen verricht, waaronder in Eau Roug/Raidillon.

Tribune

Ook om de baan worden dus de nodige dingen aangepakt. Het bekende chalet werd al eerder afgebroken en ook de herkenbare oude tribune is met de grond gelijk gemaakt. Hier is men inmiddels hard bezig met de bouw van een nieuwe, modernere tribune. De tribune moet daarnaast ook beter bij de omgeving waarin hij staat passen.

Is het nu dan afgelopen met de vergevingsgezindheid, in die zin dat als er een foutje wordt gemaakt, de coureur in de grindbak beland?

Als toevoeging op het spektakel kunnen F1 coureurs in de toekomst een ritje door de pits maken om daar bananenschillen op te pikken die ze dan uit de auto flikkeren bij Eau Rouge. Vandaar de grindbak, anders wordt een monumentaal zootje.

  Racen is altijd dodelijk. kan ik nog wel een paar circuits opnoemen waar enorme ongelukken kunnen gebeuren. Max die bijvoorbeeld door 'geluk' de goede kant op schoot in baku, of wat dacht je van jeddah? #waitingtohappen.
