Coulthard en Chadwick vertegenwoordigen Verenigd Koninkrijk op Race of Champions

Begin volgende maand vindt de Race of Champions weer plaats. Dit speciale evenement wordt normaliter in stadions verreden maar dit jaar is alles anders. Men zal namelijk racen op een bevroren meer in Pite Havsbad, Zweden. Over het deelnemersveld wordt steeds meer bekend en het aantal bekende namen neemt steeds toe.

Deze week zijn ook de deelnemers namens team Groot Brittannië bekend gemaakt. David Coulthard en Jamie Chadwick zullen de kleuren van hun moederland verdedigen op het spectaculaire evenement. Coulthard is een ware ROC-veteraan en heeft het evenement al twee keer gewonnen bij het individuele kampioenschap.

Wolff

Chadwick zal voor de eerste keer deelnemen aan het event. De Britse is tweevoudig W-Series kampioen en is de tweede vrouw die deelneemt aan het evenement. Ze treedt in de voetsporen van Susie Wolff, die in 2014 deelnam. Chadwick heeft tijdens het afgelopen seizoen ervaring opgedaan op onverhard terrein. Ze nam deel aan de Extreme E naast haar W-Series activiteiten.

Eerder werd al duidelijk dat Formule 1-coureurs Sebastian Vettel, Mick Schumacher en Valtteri Bottas deelnemen aan het evenement. Ook tweevoudig wereldkampioen Mika Häkkinen zal voor het eerst meedoen aan het evenement. Naast de Formule 1-sterren doen ook WRC-legende Sebastien Loeb, viervoudig Indy 500-winnaar Helio Castroneves en Petter Solberg mee.

Zou wel leuk zijn om een Nederlands team te zien. Wie zouden daarvoor (realistische) goede kandidaten kunnen zijn? Rudy v Buren en Beitske Visser? Zijn bekend met verschillende klassen en zullen niet erg druk zijn en toestemming kunnen krijgen van hun werkgever(s).
