Australische Grand Prix gaat door: "Hebben toezegging van de staat gekregen"

Voor het aankomende seizoen staat de Australische Grand Prix weer op de kalender. De wedstrijd kon door de coronapandemie de afgelopen twee jaar niet doorgaan. Nu gaat men ervan uit dat de race gewoon kan doorgaan in het weekend van 10 april. Toch bestaan er nog altijd een kleine angst dat de pandemie roet in het eten gaat gooien.

De inreisregels in Australië zijn momenteel nog steeds zeer streng. Zonder vaccinatie komt men het land namelijk amper in. Tennisser Novak Djokovic werd eerder deze maand zonder pardon het land uitgezet omdat hij niet wilde aangeven of hij wel of niet gevaccineerd was tegen het coronavirus.

Toezegging

Maar in Australië zelf maakt men zich momenteel weinig zorgen over het doorgaan van de race. In Melbourne is men zelfs zeer optimistisch. In gesprek met Speedcafé laat CEO Andrew Westacott duidelijk van zich horen: "We hebben vanuit de overheid van de staat Victoria de toezegging gekregen dat het evenement gewoon door kan gaan."

Warme broodjes

Men houdt in Melbourne een oogje in het zeil op corona-gebied maar dat betekent niet dat er weinig animo is voor de wedstrijd. Volgens Westacott loopt het storm bij de kaartenverkoop: "Er zijn nog tachtig dagen te gaan en de kaartjes gaan echt als warme broodjes over de toonbank. Alle voorbereidingen zijn in volle gang en ik kan persoonlijk niet wachten op de coureurs en hun gloednieuwe auto's te verwelkomen op ons nieuwe circuit."

  Dan moet Lewis wel invullen waar hij de afgelopen tijd is geweest. Want het bewust foutief invullen van het visa formuliertje schijnt wel een dingetje te zijn. Volgens Novak dan. Wordt eem mooi seizoen border control Australia!
