Williams neemt afscheid van kopstuk

Het team van Williams heeft vorig jaar de weg omhoog ingezet. De legendarische Britse renstal scoorde vorig seizoen eindelijk weer wat punten en ze konden met George Russell ook verrassen. Het team wil op de lange termijn weer mee doen om de prijzen en is dan ook bezig om de juiste poppetjes op de juiste plek te plaatsen.

Die herstructurering betekent wel dat er soms afscheid moet worden genomen van bepaalde mensen. Vandaag is duidelijk geworden dat Williams afscheid neemt van engineering director Adam Carter. Hij werkte sinds 2016 voor het Britse team en was één van de hoogst geplaatste mensen die voor het team aanwezig was op het circuit.

Capito

Teambaas Jost Capito is verantwoordelijk voor de herstructurering en dus ook voor het vertrek van Carter. In een statement van het team bespreekt Capito het vertrek: "Als we vooruit kijken naar onze engineering strategie voor de aankomende jaren moeten we veranderingen doorvoeren in onze engineering structuur. Adam Carter heeft het team verlaten en ik wil hem graag bedanken voor zijn harde werk en inzet over de afgelopen zes jaar."

Volkswagen

Onder leiding van Capito is er de afgelopen jaren veel veranderd bij het team van Williams. Voormalig Volkswagen-man Capito heeft veel oude bekenden binnengehaald. Zo introduceerde hij voormalig Volkswagen-collega Francois-Xavier Demaison als technisch directeur. Ook trok hij Sven Smeets aan, nog iemand met een Volkswagen-achtergrond.
