Albert Park stevig onder handen genomen om inhalen te bevorderen

Aankomend seizoen staat de Grand Prix van Australië weer op de kalender. De race in Melbourne ontbrak door de coronacrisis de afgelopen twee seizoenen op de Formule 1-kalender maar maakt nu dus zijn comeback. Dat gebeurt wel op een stevig aangepast Albert Park, de afgelopen periode zijn er namelijk enkele aanpassingen doorgevoerd.

Eerder werd er al besloten dat de baan in de stad Melbourne stevig onder handen moest worden genomen. Men wilde meer inhaalmogelijkheden creëren dus moesten er enkele aanpassingen worden verricht. Vooral de bochten 9 en 10 zijn compleet veranderd. Eerst was de bocht een chicane waar men vrij rustig doorheen kon rijden. Dit is echter verleden tijd, de bochtencombinatie is nu een snelle en vloeiende bocht.

Asfalt

Naast deze aanpassing zijn er meerdere factoren aangepakt. Geen andere ingreep is echter zo ingrijpend als de veranderingen in bocht 9 en 10. De baan is voor het eerst sinds 1996 (!) weer voorzien van een verse laag asfalt. Daarnaast heeft men de baan op enkele gedeeltes verbreed zodat de coureurs meer mogelijkheden hebben om elkaar in te halen.

De race op Albert Park was voorheen vaak de seizoensopener. Door de coronacrisis is de race naar achteren verschoven op de kalender. Vorig jaar zou de Grand Prix aan het einde van seizoen plaatsvinden maar de pandemie gooide roet in het eten. In 2022 is het de derde race op de kalender, op 10 april zullen de heren coureurs van start gaan.

Een voor en na plaatje is dan wel zo handig.

Zonde dat het niet meer de seizoensopener is. Altijd erg sfeervolle races met echte fans. Nu starten we weer op zo'n Tilke gedrocht in the middle of f*cking nowhere.

  Ze hebben dus meer ruimte gecreëerd buiten de baan (!!!) om inhalen te vergemakkelijken?
  Dat druist dus precies in tegen alles waar ze momenteel pretenderen tegen te strijden.
  Meer inhaal acties naast de baan was juist één van de zaken die vanaf nu moest worden voorkomen, aldus de FIA, teams, coureurs en fans.
