'Imola dichtbij permanente plek op Formule 1-kalender'

De coronapandemie zorgde ervoor dat de Formule 1 een creatieve oplossing moest bedenken voor de gaten op de kalender. Hierdoor keerde bijvoorbeeld het klassieke circuit van Imola in 2020 terug op de Formule 1-kalender. Ook in 2021 reed de sport op het Italiaanse circuit en zelfs tijdens het aankomende seizoen zal er worden geracet op de historische baan.

Toch heeft Imola geen permanente plek op de Formule 1-kalender. De reden van de aanwezigheid van het circuit heeft simpelweg te maken met het feit dat andere races niet door kunnen gaan door de pandemie. Toch lijkt het erop dat er hier verandering in gaat komen.

Het circuit wil namelijk een permanente plek op de Formule 1-kalender. Ook de Italiaanse autosportbond ACI ziet heil in het plan en doet er alles aan om een tweede Italiaanse Grand Prix naast Monza te organiseren. Nu lijkt het erop dat er een doorslag is, volgens La Gazzetta dello Sport zal er spoedig witte rook volgen.

2025

Het lijkt er namelijk op dat er snel meer nieuws komt over een nieuw contract van Imola. Volgens het Italiaanse medium zou het circuit hierdoor tot 2025 onderdeel blijven uitmaken van de Formule 1-kalender. De losse eindjes zouden nog moeten worden vastgeknoopt maar daarna zou men het contract kunnen gaan ondertekenen. Dit jaar staat de Grand Prix in ieder geval op de kalender. De heren coureurs staan op 24 april aan de start van de Grand Prix van Emilia Romagna.

Dit kwam ik ook tegen.

De Formule 1-coureurs blijven voorlopig racen in Singapore. Het contract met de organisatoren van de stratenrace is met zeven jaar verlengd.

Imola vind ik net iets te smal voor de F1, maar ik mis Portimao op de kalender, wat een vette baan was dat.

  Portimao met zijn niveauverschillen, grasstroken én grind. Heel gaaf! Persoonlijk ook lichte voorkeur voor Mugello boven Imola. Maar ik wil niet verwend overkomen ;-). Beide echte klasse.
