Räikkönen heeft nieuwe baan: Fin wordt motorcross-teambaas

Kimi Räikkönen nam vorig jaar na een lange loopbaan afscheid van de Formule 1. De Finse enkelvoudig wereldkampioen wilde meer tijd doorbrengen met zijn familie maar kan niet stil blijven zitten. Ruim een maand na zijn pensionering heeft hij echter al een nieuwe baan gevonden, als teambaas.

Het was geen geheim dat Räikkönen een bovengemiddeld interesse had in motorcross. De Fin had zelfs zijn eigen motorcrossteam, IceOne Racing. Het leek vooral een bijzaak voor de voormalige Ferrari-man maar in 2022 worden de zaakjes allemaal wat serieuzer. Räikkönen runt nu namelijk een fabrieksteam aangezien Kawaksaki aan boord is gestapt.

Hobby

Het team zal uitkomen in de MXGP, het wereldkampioenschap voor motorcross. Räikkönen zal fungeren als teambaas en laat aan de internationale media weten in zijn nopjes te zijn: "Het is geen geheim dat motorcross één van mijn grootste passies in mijn leven is. Dit team kan je echter geen hobby noemen."

Serieus

Räikkönen neemt zijn gloednieuwe taak uiterst serieus en gaat putten uit zijn jarenlange ervaring in de koningsklasse van de autosport. 'Het is heel erg serieus, we zijn heel erg gefocust en we willen het best mogelijke bereiken. Nu ik met race-pensioen ben heb ik meer tijd voor dit project. Ik ga mij niet focussen op de dagelijkse gang van zaken maar ik focus mij meer op het strategische oogpunt. Ik gebruik mijn ervaring van hoe teams werken en hoe je tot succes komt."

Ik las net dat hij zijn eerste vacature heeft uitgezet: Woordvoerder, pers en Communicatie Manager. Die gaat alle contacten met de pers doen

  Ja, al wordt de Citadel nu vooral voor veldrijden en mountainbiken gebruikt. Pierre Chonquerez stopte in 2007 als voorzitter van de promotor Namur MX Events en toen is de rest van de organisatie er eigenlijk ook mee gestopt. In historic rally kwam de Citadel nog eens langs als klassementsproef in de Bouclé de Spa
