Piastri focust zich volledig op testwerk: "Niets relevanter dan de Formule 1"

Oscar Piastri liet vorig jaar in zijn eerste Formule 2-jaar zien over een flinke dosis talent te beschikken. De jonge Australiër wist gelijk de concurrentie te verslaan en ging naar huis met de titel. Hij liet een verpletterende indruk achter maar het was niet genoeg voor een Formule 1-zitje in 2022.

Piastri zal aankomend jaar fungeren als reserverijder voor het team van Alpine. De Australiër maakt deel uit van het opleidingsprogramma van de Franse renstal. Hij zal zich aankomend seizoen dan ook vooral richten op de toekomst door zeer veel testkilometers te gaan maken. Het is een duur grapje maar Alpine heeft alle vertrouwen in Piastri.

Niet goedkoop

De jonge coureur wil zelf nergens anders gaan racen, hij wil zich volledig focussen op zijn reserverol. Piastri is zeker van zijn zaak en heeft er een duidelijke verklaring voor. In gesprek met Auto Action deelt hij zijn opvatting: "Ik heb het straks heel erg druk, ook al race ik niet. We zijn een groot testprogramma aan het samenstellen. Het worden redelijk wat dagen aangezien het de Formule 1 is. Het is ook niet goedkoop."

Relevant

De tests zijn goed genoeg voor Piastri. Hij droomt van de Formule 1 en niets mag tussen zijn droom en hem komen te staan. Hij is er dan ook heel erg fel over: "Ik ga waarschijnlijk niet racen. Maar hoe ik er naar kijk ,ik wil me voorbereiden op de Formule 1, is er niets relevanter dan de Formule 1."
