'Mogelijke Grand Prix in Las Vegas wordt nachtrace'

Gisteren kwam het nieuws naar buiten dat de Formule 1 binnenkort mogelijk naar gokparadijs Las Vegas trekt. Al geruime tijd gaan er geruchten rond over een mogelijke race in de stad in Nevada. Echter waren de geruchten nog nooit zo concreet als afgelopen week. Men zou zelfs al in een gevorderd stadium zijn met de onderhandelingen.

Het zou dan de bedoeling zijn dat de heren coureurs gaan racen op een stratencircuit middenin de stad. De baan zou leiden over de wereldberoemde Strip, langs de net zo beroemde casino's. Mogelijk verschijnt de race zelfs al volgend jaar op de kalender. Het zou dan de derde race zijn op Amerikaans grondgebied naast Austin en Miami.

Volgens Jalopnik zouden de plannen zelfs nog wat ambitieuzer zijn. Men zou namelijk zijn pijlen hebben gericht op een nachtrace in de stad. Het zou dan de eerste nachtrace zijn buiten het Aziatische continent. In 2008 reed men voor het eerst in de nacht in Singapore.

    Een nachtrace in Vegas betekent een vroege ochtendrace in Europa. Als ze op zondag een nachtrace doen, moeten wij maandagochtend vroeg de TV aanzetten. Gaat weinig kijkers opleveren vrees ik, behalve in USA zelf. Slecht plan dus.
    Nachtraces hebben alleen zin vanaf midden oosten en verder oostwaarts.
