AlphaTauri sluit stap omhoog uit: "Dat kunnen wij niet bijbenen"

Pierre Gasly liet afgelopen seizoen een sterke indruk achter in zijn AlphaTauri. De Fransman eindigde veelvuldig in de punten en was vaak vooraan het veld te vinden. Vooral in de kwalificaties kwam Gasly sterk voor de dag en in 2022 wil hij vanzelfsprekend de stijgende lijn doorzetten.

AlphaTauri eindigde vorig seizoen als zesde bij de constructeurs maar het team liet vaak wel een sterke indruk achter. De Italiaanse renstal rijdt met dezelfde motoren als moederteam Red Bull Racing en men verwacht dan ook veel van het team. De buitenwereld lijkt meer te verwachten van AlphaTauri dan het team zelf.

Bijbenen

De budget cap geeft de renstal misschien een iets grotere kans op succes maar bij de ploeg zelf temperen ze alle verwachtingen. Teambaas Franz Tost ziet zijn team geen topteam worden. In gesprek met Motorsport-Total is hij er duidelijk over: "We moeten nog steeds veel werk verrichten aan de infrastructuur om alles daar te optimaliseren. Als ik zie wat de topteams voor tools hebben en als ik hoor wat ze allemaal in huis hebben, dan kunnen wij dat niet bijbenen."

Simulatie

Tost weet dat zijn ploeg zeker niet tot de armste van de grid behoord. De Oostenrijker benadrukt nog maar eens dat er bij de toppers veel meer geld in het laatje ligt. "We hebben een goed budget maar we zijn nooit in een positie geweest waarin we veel geld konden uitgeven aan simulatie materiaal. Dat wordt steeds belangrijker aangezien we veel minder track time hebben."
