Mercedes-kopstuk Vowles kruipt zelf achter het stuur

James Vowles gaat zijn strategie-taken bij Mercedes aankomend seizoen combineren met een andere opvallende rol. De Brit kruipt dit jaar namelijk zelf ook achter het stuur. Vowles gaat racen in een McLaren in de Asian Le Mans Series. Het is een opvallende move van het belangrijke lid van de Mercedes-ploeg.

Het strategisch genie zal in Azië in actie komen voor het team Garage 59. Hij zal zijn snelle McLaren 720S GT3 delen met twee andere coureurs. Nicolai Kjaergaard en Manuel Maldonado ,de neef van, zijn de teamgenoten van Vowles bij Garage 59. De kalender van de Asian Le Mans Series bestaat in 2022 uit vier races in Dubai en Abu Dhabi.

Vowles kan zijn nieuwe job prima combineren met zijn werkzaamheden bij Mercedes. Zijn Aziatische avontuur vindt namelijk alleen plaats in februari. Hierdoor is hij ruim op tijd weer klaar voor het aankomende Formule 1-seizoen. Op 23 februari moet hij zich in Barcelona melden voor de eerste testweek van het jaar.
