Red Bull wil Juri Vips in de F1 laten debuteren

Red Bull junior coureur Juri Vips zegt dat het doel van het Oostenrijkse team in 2022 is om te bewijzen dat hij een Formule 1-coureur waardig is. De Estse coureur bereidt zich voor op zijn derde seizoen in de Formule 2. Hij blijft bij het Hitech-team, waar hij in 2021 twee overwinningen behaalde op weg naar de zesde plaats in het klassement voor coureurs.

Nadat het Red Bull Junior Team een fase doormaakte waarbij de aanwas van talenten tegenviel, is het programma nu misschien wel in zijn gezondste staat van de laatste jaren. Vips heeft onthuld dat Red Bull hem geen opdracht heeft gegeven om de F2-titel te winnen, zoals Alfa Romeo-baas Fred Vasseur heeft gedaan voor Theo Pourchaire.

F1 Test

In plaats daarvan moet hij gewoon bewijzen dat hij een kans in de Formule 1 verdient. De 21-jarige reed voor Red Bull tijdens de 2021 Young Drivers Test na de Grand Prix van Abu Dhabi, een jaar na het testen van de RB16 tijdens datzelfde evenement.

"Ik heb geen vooraf bepaalde doelstelling van Red Bull dat ik de titel moet winnen of zo. Ik moet gewoon bewijzen dat ik F1-waardig ben", vertelde hij aan de Formule 2-website. "Bij de test was het cool om het verschil te zien tussen de twee Red Bull-auto's, de veranderingen en de verbeteringen die ze tussen de twee jaren hebben doorgevoerd."

"Elke dag dat je in een F1-auto rijdt, vooral in een auto die het kampioenschap wint, is geweldig. Het voelde heel surrealistisch omdat het maar een paar dagen was nadat ze het kampioenschap hadden gewonnen. Het voelde heel speciaal. Die dagen zijn heel belangrijk omdat het een directe communicatie naar het team is van hoe je prestaties zijn."

"Natuurlijk kunnen ze je in de F2 beoordelen, maar als je in de F1-auto rijdt hebben ze de exacte details en kunnen ze echt zeggen hoe goed of slecht je bent."

Vips is echter zeer gefocust op het vinden van succes in de Formule 2 tijdens het nieuwe seizoen en zegt dat hij zich zeer gezegend voelt om zelfs maar op de grid te staan. Wat betreft titelaspiraties gelooft hij dat Prema van een 'andere klasse' is en heel moeilijk te verslaan.

Prema won de afgelopen 2 jaar zowel het kampioenschap bij de coureurs als constructeurs en heeft voor 2022 twee Red Bull-junior coureurs gecontracteerd, te weten Dennis Hauger en Jehan Daruvala.

Is toch behoorlijk goed hoor, van alle RB talenten spreekt hij mij het meest aan, soms iets te erratic maar behoorlijk wat raw pace, wat hij vooral nog nodig heeft is meer regelmaat, kan zomaar Prema een neus zetten!

  Ik vind Liam Lawson het beter doen dan Vips, zowel in de F2 als in de DTM waar hij heel indrukwekkend was
  
  Vips haalde wel meer punten maar dat kwam vooral door de pech bij Lawson

  En dan is er natuurlijk ook nog F3 kampioen Dennis Hauger die komend jaar zijn debuut in de F2 maakt bij Prema, ook dat is een veelbelovend Red Bull talent, misschien nog wel beter dan zowel Lawson als Vips

Hmmmm… goede coureur en één van de beete binnen het Red Bull programma, maar een echte topper voor de F1 denk ik niet

Is zeker niet slecht en denk niet dat hij onder zal doen voor een Tsunoda.

Zeer talentvol leek hij. Tsunoda kreeg een kans in plaats van hem en helaas voor Vips faalde die niet. Vervolgens moest Vips gaan zwerven en kwam hij uiteindelijk toch bij een F2 team terecht, maar veel kansen voor dat niet. Goed dat ze hem nog niet uit het oog verloren zijn. Al zou ik niet weten hoe hij nog in een racestoeltje terecht kan komen. Misschien als een Latifi of Mazepin het laten liggen en de familie er genoeg van heeft? Maar de concurrentie is flink.

Uiteindelijk moet Vips waarschijnlijk kijken naar een leuk WEC-zitje of iets in de VS.

  Denk dat de enige kans goed doen in de F2 liefst top3 en dan het eventueel vertrek of doorschuiven van Gasly.
