Mercedes hint weer op nieuwe kleurstelling

Aankomende week trekt Mercedes het doek van hun nieuwe W13, de wagen waarmee men aankomend seizoen hun constructeurstitel wil gaan verdedigen. Hoe die dagen eruit komt te zien is nog niet duidelijk, de kans is namelijk groot dat men afstapt van de zwarte livery van de afgelopen seizoenen.

Mercedes verruilde de iconische zilveren livery in 2020 voor een zwarte kleurstelling. Dit was de nadrukkelijke wens van stercoureur Lewis Hamilton. De Brit strijdt tegen racisme en met een zwarte wagen wilde hij de 'Black Lives Matter' beweging steunen. Vorig jaar liet hij echter blijken geen problemen te hebben met een afscheid van de zwarte kleurstelling. Mercedes blijft sindsdien hinten op een livery-verandering. Ook nu hint de ploeg op Twitter op een nieuwe kleurstelling.

    Jammer, want ik onderschrijf de boodschap en vind de zwarte kleurstelling bovendien erg mooi (al was 2020 mooier dan 2021). Ik hoop dan ook dat er in ieder geval elementen van de zwarte kleurstelling behouden blijven.

      ondanks het feit dat ik in de basis de boodschap ook onderschrijf hoef ik naar mijn smaak nou niet direct een link te zien tussen de kleur van een F1 wagen en een maatschappelijke boodschap.
      Het moet voor mij een racewagen zijn en geen uithangbord voor dergelijke. Bijkomend nadeel is dan ook dat allerlei discussies bij de F1 betrokken worden die er eigenlijk niet thuishoren.
      Dat gezegd hebbende is zwart altijd qua kleur een winner. Grijs vind ik wat minder, of men moet de kleur chrome pakken, maar (en heb me laten vertellen dat dit aerodynamische redenen heeft) kiest men tegenwoordig bewust voor matlak, en dan wordt dat een lastig verhaal.

      Kleur en zelfs textuur maakt niks uit naar performantie. Dit werd intensief getest jaren geleden oa door McLaren zonder ook maar 1 voordeel te leveren.

      Zwart oogt gewoon heel erg mooi op een F1 wagen maar dat is iets persoonlijk. Lotus kleuren zag ik ook graag met die gouden letters. Nu met dat Petronas kleur is ook mooi contrasterend en - voor mij - liever dan grijs.

      Racewagens zijn toch al decennia (meer precies: sinds 1968) rijdende reclameborden? Nu zaken als tabak, alcohol en frisdrank werden en worden gepromoot, kan ik geen aanstoot nemen aan een positieve maatschappelijke boodschap.
