Button wil dat radioverkeer naar Masi stopt: "Misschien een stap voorwaarts"

De meest recente Grand Prix van Abu Dhabi houdt de gemoederen nog steeds flink bezig. Vooral de discutabele beslissingen van race director Michael Masi zijn nog steeds voer voor discussie. Autosportfederatie FIA heeft inmiddels hun bevindingen voorgelegd aan de F1 Commission en men komt later deze week met meer informatie.

Maar er gebeurde afgelopen seizoen nog meer dat stof deed opwaaien. Voor het eerst kon het publiek op de bank namelijk meegenieten van het radioverkeer tussen de teams en Masi. De teams besloten dit volledig uit te melken en gingen daarmee alle grenzen over. Tijdens de seizoensfinale in Abu Dhabi kreeg Masi voortdurend te maken met Red Bull-teambaas Christian Horner en Mercedes-teambaas Toto Wolff. Beide heren deden er alles aan om de Australiër te beïnvloeden.

Stap voorwaarts

De radioberichten zorgden voor veel chagrijn bij kenners. Men denkt dat een deel van de oplossing ligt bij het schrappen van het desbetreffende radioverkeer. Ook enkelvoudig wereldkampioen Jenson Button denkt dat dit een van de oplossingen is. In gesprek met Sky Sports is hij duidelijk: "Misschien moeten ze hun meningen niet naar Masi schreeuwen. Misschien is dat een stap voorwaarts, dan kan Masi zelf de beslissingen nemen."

Adrenaline

Button is het radioverkeer tussen Masi en de teambazen dan ook liever kwijt dan rijk. De Engelsman vindt het veel nuttiger als men na de race kan babbelen. Maar tijdens de race moet men volgens Button elkaar met rust laten: "Ik denk dat het verkeerd is omdat er zoveel emotie zit bij de teams. Ook voor Masi is het lastig want er is zoveel adrenaline. Er kijken een heleboel mensen mee dus ik denk dat het beter is als de stewards samen tot een oplossing komen."

Helemaal mee eens, gewoon kappen met dat radioverkeer, en bij een situatie dit eerst afstemmen met een "rechterhand " van Masi die het op een normale manier kan bespreken met Masi - zonder manipulatie of emotie.

  Precies. Dat is al een stap in de goede richting. 2. Geen stewards uit hetzelfde land als een voor de titelkandidaten. Dat kan men na 4 to 5 races al zien. Bovendien moet men dit naar het einde van het seizoen toe zo sturen dat men dan stewards uit andere landen oproept. 3. Maak de regels eenvoudiger èn maak daarvoor een syllabus met vastgestelde strafmaten voor elk vergrijp. Pas dit consequent toe zonder aanzien des persoons en klaar is Kees.

zou fijn zijn, maar als er een nieuwe wedstrijdleider komt schiet je er nog niks mee op ;)

  Juist: Masi functie elders, probleem opgelost!
  In algemene zin moet het directe radioverkeer tussen de teambazen en de wedstrijdleider aan banden worden gelegd. Of dat nou Masi is of een ander is, doet niet ter zake.

  Ik vind niet dat Masi 1 fout heeft gemaakt. Hij heeft het hele jaar uit de hand laten lopen. Ja de stewards gaan over de straffen van coureurs. Maar Masi is verantwoordelijk als wedstrijdleider voor de stewards. Het is letterlijk in Bahrein als een poppenkast begonnen met tracklimits en geindigd in de laatstse ronde van Abu Dhabi. Niet alles was zijn schuld, wel alles was zijn verantwoording. Max en Lewis zijn meerdere keren dit jaar benadeeld of inconsequent gestraft. Of je nou kamp Max of Lewis bent dit zou in principe al niet moeten.
  
  Dus hij zal of een sterk vast team om zich heen moeten krijgen of ze moeten inderdaad naar een ander op zoek.

Al dat getetter van die teambazen (met elk hun eigenbelang voorop) in Masi's oren zorgt alleen maar voor afleiding en onrust, vandaar dat lepe Toto ook af en toe gewoon in alle rust gewoon een mailtje stuurde tijdens de races met de boodschap "Zis iz raait, and zhat iz wronk Mikey".

  Ik snap dat hele landen gedoe niet echt. Lewis is nou niet een heel geliefde Brit. Er zijn genoeg Nederlanders fan van andere coureurs dan Verstappen.
  Het zou overigens denk ik Masi wel helpen wat minder gelul aan ze hoofd.

Old news eigenlijk Jenson. Onofficieel is die kogel al lang door de kerk en terecht. Dit was onprofessioneel van alle partijen. Voor de FIA komt dit goed uit dat andere partijen hier ook een toedracht hebben.

Masi blijft bij de FIA maar zal instaan voor de veiligheid en geen RD meer. Daar is zijn positie voor teveel gecompromitteerd.

Misschien had Button het bericht van Toto aan de wedstrijdleiding al moeten afkeuren. Daar had de Britse kloek geen problemen mee.
