Veel Formule 1-coureurs hopen dat het seizoen 2022 vlekkeloos verloopt. De afgelopen twee seizoenen werden zwaar getroffen door de coronapandemie, maar de Australiër Daniel Ricciardo hoopt dat hij eindelijk kan terugkeren naar zijn geboorteland voor de geplande race in Melbourne in april.

De McLaren-coureur: "Het circuit is opnieuw opgebouwd, wat het nog interessanter zal maken - ik zal heel blij zijn om naar huis terug te keren. Als de nieuwe configuratie het inhalen en vechten makkelijker maakt, kunnen we in Melbourne een heel andere race zien dan in de afgelopen jaren."

Djokovic

Echter, de nummer 1 tennisser van de wereld Novak Djokovic was onlangs verwikkeld in een vaccinatieschandaal toen hij het land werd uitgezet en verhinderd te spelen in Melbourne's Australian Open.

"Ik hoop dat het ding met Djokovic eenmalig was", zei Ricciardo. "Ik denk dat iedereen in staat zal zijn om naar Australië te gaan. Als je gevaccineerd bent, zou er geen probleem moeten zijn."

Een andere gaststad die zwaar getroffen is door corona is Montreal, waar de Canadese coureur Nicholas Latifi hoopt dat hij in 2022 eindelijk zijn thuisrace kan rijden. Hij vertelde aan La Press: "Het is mijn derde seizoen in de F1 en ik heb thuis nog geen Grand Prix kunnen rijden. Ik kruis mijn vingers in de hoop dat het de derde keer geluk zal brengen."

Situatie Rusland

Tot slot melden bronnen dat de Formule 1 en de FIA de situatie aan de Russisch-Oekraïense grens nauwlettend in de gaten houden en of de races in Sochi en het nabijgelegen Azerbeidzjan mogelijk door een conflict worden beïnvloed.

  Één mutatie de verkeerde kant op vanuit bijvoorbeeld een derde wereld land en het is weer prijs vrees ik.

Het zou wel een dikke vette booster zijn, als we definitief van die f×cking Corona ellende verlost zijn.

Het zal altijd blijven, en terug komen, zoals de griep is de verwachting, vandaar dat het ook open gaat.

Maar in andere delen van de wereld kijken ze er heel anders naar, zo'n land is Australia, dus kort samen gevat, als rondreizend circus, zullen ze er wel mee te maken hebben.
