Lewis Hamilton is een groot autosporticoon. De Brit heeft de afgelopen jaren vele records verbroken en hij kan aankomend seizoen zijn recordbrekende achtste wereldtitel pakken. Wereldwijd geniet de Brit veel respect van fans, ook onder andere sporters is er groot respect voor de Mercedes-coureur.

Afgelopen seizoen vocht Hamilton een titanenduel uit met Max Verstappen. Uiteindelijk trok de Nederlandse Red Bull-coureur aan het langste eind maar dat betekent niet dat Hamiltons populariteit daalde. Ook tijdens de Olympische Winterspelen deden er afgelopen weken fans van de Brit mee. De Canadese shorttracker Charles Hamelin is een groot fan van de Brit en dat liet hij blijken.

Hamelin reed zijn shorttrack-rondjes met een wel heel speciaal helmdesign. Zijn hoofddeksel was namelijk paars van kleur en toonde opvallende gelijkenissen met de helm van Hamilton. De Canadees geeft dan ook toe dat zijn helm is geïnspireerd op die van Hamilton. Hamelin kende een succesvol toernooi en won de 5000 meter relay. Hamilton liet op Twitter blijken het helmdesign te waarderen en Hamelin was op zijn beurt in de wolken met het bericht.

Leuk om te zien dat ook andere sporters Lewis op waarde schatten door hem op deze manier te eren. Ik heb mij altijd gestoord aan dat 'celebrity lifstyle' van Lewis, maar deze manier van leven heeft hem samen met het autoracen wel een enorme 'fanbase' bezorgd, chapeau!!
