Spa-Francorchamps geeft update over verbouwingen Eau Rouge

De officials van Spa-Francorchamps hebben nieuwe foto's vrijgegeven van de werkzaamheden aan de beroemde bocht Eau Rouge op het circuit in België. De renovatiewerken op het circuit in de Ardennen begonnen aan het begin van deze winter en vrijwel wekelijks is er gewerkt aan Eau Rouge en Raidillon.

In verschillende bochten zullen grindbakken gedeeltelijk terugkeren, omdat de limieten van het circuit dichter naar de kerbs worden verschoven, onder meer in de dubbele linkerbocht Pouhon en de chicane links-rechts in Les Combes.

Maar een van de belangrijkste onderdelen van de vernieuwing is de Eau Rouge, een van de beroemdste bochten in de Formule 1. Er zijn veiligheidsmaatregelen genomen die zichtbare veranderingen hebben teweeggebracht in het gebied rond de steile rechterbocht, niet in het minst door nieuw asfalt dat is aangelegd.

Bij nadere beschouwing van de veranderingen rond de bocht komen ook nieuwe elementen aan het licht over hoe de bocht veiliger zal worden. De muur aan de linkerkant van de heuvel richting de eerste apex is verder van het circuit verwijderd, maar coureurs die bij het insturen van de bocht de vrijheid willen nemen om te proberen Eau Rouge rechtuit te laten gaan, krijgen een onaangename verrassing, want er is een nieuwe kerbstone aangebracht om te voorkomen dat het profiel van de bocht verandert.

Dit heeft een tweeledig effect: de baan wordt veiliger zonder dat de uitdaging voor de coureurs in het gedrang komt, wat hopelijk een win-winsituatie oplevert. De aanloop aan het einde van de bocht is ook verlengd in de hoop de impact van een coureur in de muur te verminderen, mocht hij spinnen.

Bovendien begint de geplande nieuwe tribune bovenop de heuvel van Raidillon vorm te krijgen. Die moet eind april klaar zijn en zal plaats bieden aan 4.600 fans en VIP-boxen. De Belgische Grand Prix van 2022 zal hopelijk dit keer wel tot een goed einde worden gebracht en zal plaatsvinden in het weekend van 26-28 augustus op het vernieuwde Spa-Francorchamps.

Vreemd genoeg hebben ze de vangrail ter hoogte van het tunneltje bij Eau Rouge ook naar achter geschoven. Daar heb ik echter nog nooit problemen gezien. Ik zie ook niet wat hier het voordeel van is.
De uitloop strook bij de tribune lijkt me weinig veranderd terwijl ik daar juist de grote wijzigin... [Lees verder]

  Klopt, het is niet met veel, maar ze hebben Eau Rouge inderdaad ietsje scherper gemaakt onderin.

Dus dan blijft de bandenmuur tegen de heuvel op het hoogste punt ter hoogte van het voormalige witte chalet die plaats heeft moeten maken voor meer ruimte aan de linkerzijde van de baan.
Helaas is dat gedeelte op deze foto's nauwelijks te zien.

Ik ben dan ook benieuwd naar de wijzigingen op Pouhon.
Dat ze die grindbak ooit hebben gewisseld tegen een asfaltstrook is echt een gemis geweest.

  De run naar beneden was altijd heel smal. Als daar crashes waren kwamen auto's terug de baan op. Als je dat wilt oplossen door de strook gras breder te maken, moet je die doortrekken tot aan eau rouge. Als je 'm zou versmallen bij het ingaan van eau rouge zou dat weer leiden tot gevaarlijkere impacthoeken. Bovenaan de radaillon is het trouwens fiks breder nu. Ook om ervoor te zorgen dat gecrashte auto's niet terug de baan op stuiteren.

@ Evert > de bedoeling van het 'achteruit' brengen van de vangrails ter hoogte van de Eau Rouge-tunnel is om de aankomende rijders zicht te geven op de bochtencombinatie erachter. Verhoogde safety gewoon.
De foto toont het idd niet maar ter hoogte van de voormalige chalet is de berm aanzienlijk achteruit gebracht. Beter zicht op het uitkomen van de bocht.
Pouhon krijgt opnieuw 'n grindbak maar er blijft een strook tarmac net naast de baan.

  Kan niet te maken hebben met "beter zicht" gezien de baan daar steil omhoog loopt en je al vanaf La Source de chicane in kan kijken.
  Ook bovenop Radillon kan het niks met zicht van doen hebben want men kan niet over de heuvel heen kijken. Dat is dus wél een extra uitloop mogelijkheid waar ze voorheen tegen de wand van de berg links aanklapten.
  
  Misschien heb je gelijk hoor, maar het is nogal onwaarschijnlijk in mijn ogen.
