Vettel test in Bahrein met speciale vredeshelm

Sebastian Vettel heeft zich in de afgelopen jaren ontpopt tot één van de meest maatschappelijk betrokken coureurs van het Formule 1-veld. De Duitse Aston Martin-coureur steunde Lewis Hamilton in zijn strijd tegen racisme, vroeg aandacht voor zwerfafval en kaartte het belang van schoon drinkwater aan. Nu spreekt Vettel zich ook uit over de oorlog in Oekraïne.

Toen de oorlog uitbrak waren Vettel en zijn collega's net bezig met de eerste testweek in Barcelona. Vettel sprak zich meteen op duidelijk wijze uit en hij gaf aan dat hij niet in Rusland wilde racen. Zijn scherpe woorden kregen gehoor want de Formule 1 schrapte de Russische Grand Prix. In Bahrein rijdt Vettel nu dan ook rond met een speciale helm, zijn ontwerp is een boodschap van steun aan de Oekraïners.

Het is de oplettende kijker waarschijnlijk al opgevallen tijdens de eerste testdag, Vettels witte helm is voorzien van een Oekraïense vlag en enkele andere veelzeggende details. Op het hoofddeksel van de Aston Martin-coureur is ook het No War-logo aanwezig wat eerder al te zien was bij een statement van de GPDA. Daarnaast staat ook de songtekst van het 'Imagine' van John Lennon op de bovenkant van de helm. Ook is er een vredesduif aanwezig op de helm.

Die Vettel droogt goed op, goede vent inmiddels. Mooie helm ook... wat zijn die simpele ontwerpen toch sterk en mooi.

  iedereen loopt naar mijn smaak teveel met hem weg de laatste tijd. Allemaal leuk en aardig hoor die nobele nevenactiviteiten van Seb maar daar beoordeel ik geen F1 coureur op, puur op racecraft, ik beoordeel bijv een prostituee ook niet op hoe goed ze appeltaart kan bakken.
  ik loop niet zo mee in de Seb polonaise, ik vind het eigenlijk gewoon niet zo'n goede coureur. Ik zie vooral iemand die door iedereen leuk en geweldig gevonden wil worden

  In dat geval zou ik even langs natte sjaan op de wallen gaan, ze ziet er niet uit, de diensten die ze aanbiedt laten te wensen over, maar die appeltaart..... :)

Ik snap de boodschap, maar het gedweep met Oekraïne als baken van licht in het donkere Oostblok vind ik vrij ongemakkelijk. Niet voor niets waren zowel Navo- als EU-lidmaatschap nog zéér ver weg voor dat land.
