Van Amersfoort Racing scoort meteen pole bij F3-debuut

Het Nederlandse team Van Amersfoort Racing maakte een indrukwekkend debuut door direct bij het eerste F3-weekend de pole position op te eisen.

Franco Colapinto reed in de kwalificatie in Sakhir op het Bahrein International Circuit naar de eerste tijd met een ronde van 1:46.249. Met deze prestatie start de 18-jarige Argentijn vooraan bij de hoofdrace van zondag.

Op de zaterdag staat ook een sprintrace gepland. De startvolgorde is dan een tikkeltje anders. De top twaalf van de kwalificatie wordt omgedraaid. Dat betekent dat Colapinto als 12de de wedstrijd aanvangt.

Bijna dubbelfeest

Van Amersfoort Racing kwam ook voor het eerst in actie in de Formule 2. Bij de kwalificatie was Jack Hughes bijna op weg naar een sensatie, maar kon bij de laatste run zich niet verbeteren en zakte terug naar P8. Jack Doohan ging uiteindelijk met de pole vandoor.

Hughes was snel op de eerste set banden en leidde een lange periode met een tijd van 1:41.121, voordat hij de pits in ging voor een nieuwe set zacht rubber, dat hij door verschillende factoren niet aan de praat kreeg.

"Allereerst felicitaties aan het F3-team nadat Franco (Colapinto) de pole pakte, het zette me onder druk om de sessie in te gaan!", begon Hughes.

“Voor mij was de auto op de eerste set banden ongelooflijk en de rondetijd liet het zien. Uiteindelijk is het een beetje frustrerend omdat ik het gevoel heb dat we een auto hadden die goed genoeg was voor de pole."

De sprintrace van de Formule 3 begint zaterdag om 10.45 uur Nederlandse tijd. De sprintrace van de Formule 2 is na de kwalificatie van de Formule 1 om 17.40 uur.

Ik heb het in verband met drukte op het werk niet meegekregen, maar er wordt dus weer zowel F3 als F2 gereden in een weekend? Dat is goed nieuws, vooral omdat de 2021-opzet a) onbegrijpelijk en b) ronduit bud was.

  Idd zeer goed gewerkt, heb wel wat bedenkingen bij Cordeel stijf laatste mag hopen dat deze rijdende chicane problemen met de auto had deed ook maar een run.
