Alpine organiseert historische vrouwelijke demo run in Saoedi-Arabië

Dit weekend rijdt de Formule 1 in het veel besproken Saoedi-Arabië. De race deed vorig jaar bij de eerste editie veel stof opwaaien, het land staat immers niet bekend als een plek waar mensenrechten hoog in het vaandel staan. Vooral vrouwenrechten blijven nogal achter in Saoedi-Arabië.

Sinds een aantal jaar zijn de strenge regels in het land redelijk versoepelt maar het land is en blijft redelijk dubieus. Het team van Alpine grijpt de editie van dit jaar in ieder geval aan voor een historische demorun. De Franse renstal organiseerde namelijk een demonstratie in hoofdstad Riyad. Achter het stuur van hun Formule 1-wagen zaten twee vrouwen, Abbi Pulling en Aseel Al Hamad. Het was een historisch moment.

  Voor jou wel, in je zeteltje (of op je koraalrif). Maar in dat land is de betekenis wel heel anders!
  "Het verbod voor vrouwen om met de auto te rijden in Saoedi-Arabië is opgeheven in juni 2018. Het is een kleine positieve stap in de lange nog af te leggen weg om de situatie van vrouwen in het land te verbeteren."
  
  Ik zie een dame die zich kan/mag uiten in een wereld waarin dat niet altijd evident is. En da's, voor mij, absoluut geen farce.
