F1 en FIA komen met statement over GP-weekend Saoedi-Arabië

De Formule 1-race in Saoedi-Arabië gaat gewoon door, zo maken de F1 en FIA vanochtend bekend. Gisteren werden er raketaanvallen gepleegd op de stad Jeddah waar dit weekend de tweede race van het F1-seizoen wordt gehouden. Tijdens de eerste training begonnen de bombardementen die doorgingen tijdens de F2-kwalificatie.

Het gezamenlijke statement stelt: "De Formule 1 en de FIA kunnen bevestigen dat na besprekingen met alle teams en coureurs de Formule 1 Grand Prix van Saudi-Arabië in 2022 doorgaat zoals gepland. Na het veelvuldig gerapporteerde incident dat vrijdag in Jeddah plaatsvond, is er een uitgebreide discussie geweest tussen alle belanghebbenden, de Saoedische regeringsautoriteiten en veiligheidsinstanties die volledige en gedetailleerde garanties hebben gegeven dat het evenement veilig is. Met alle belanghebbenden is afgesproken om tijdens het evenement en voor de toekomst een duidelijke en open dialoog te voeren."

Formule 1-teams en coureurs mogen individueel wel beslissen om niet deel te nemen, maar vooralsnog heeft niemand zich afgemeld.

Sky-analist Ralf Schumacher is echter direct naar huis vertrokken en roept op aan de teams om dat ook te doen.

    Zo jammer dat die zakkenvullers de hele sport naar de klote helpen!! Dat geld voor alle sport trouwens. FIFA ook verkocht aan die zandbak.. nu heeft Stefano een nieuwe bron aan bloedgeld gevonden, het leek hem een goed idee om in Africa te race.. vraag aan Dakar hoe dat af is gelopen

      wij zijn met onze levenstijl gewoon deels afhankelijk van Rusland en Saudi Arabië. Haal hun olie en gas van de markt, dan zit je deze zomer misschien nog goed als je toevallig van fietsen houdt, maar een warm huis en een ritje met de auto zullen dan welhaast onbetaalbaar worden voor velen. Afrika en Azië hebben we vroeger natuurlijk al leeggeplunderd.

      We krijgen nu de rekening gepresenteerd van het feit dat we decennia lang boven onze stand hebben geleefd. En daarmee hebben we een helehoop macht en geld in de verkeerde handen gelegd. Jammer maar het moest een keer uit zijn met de pret. Positief puntje is wel dat we hiermee het proces om te verduurzamen alleen maar versnellen.
