DutchGP wil contract verlengen maar F1-organisatie heeft laatste stem

Het circuit in Zandvoort is na de race van 2021 één van de meest geliefde locaties van de F1-kalender geworden maar de F1 moet nog een tweejarige 'optie' op de huidige deal lichten. Dat vertelde Robert van Overdijk aan tafel bij Viaplay.

De circuitdirecteur van Zandvoort zegt dat de organisatie van de DutchGP graag wil verlengen: "FOM wil ons nog lang op de kalender houden. We hebben een optie voor nog twee jaar DutchGP (na de 3 jaar die al is afgesproken), maar die optie moet nog gelicht worden en er is zelfs de mogelijkheid dat we voor veel langer kunnen bijtekenen. Het is aan FOM, maar als het aan ons ligt zetten wij morgen de handtekening om te verlengen."

Geen overheidssteun

Van Overdijk gaf toe dat de populariteit van Zandvoort alleen niet genoeg zal zijn voor de Nederlandse GP om zijn eigen toekomst veilig te stellen.

"We zijn een privé-evenement zonder overheidssteun en dus moeten we eerst sponsors en partners hebben voordat we een langetermijndeal kunnen aangaan", zei hij.

Spa-Francorchamps in de gevarenzone

Een andere populaire en historische F1-locatie, Spa-Francorchamps, behoudt ook zijn plaats op de racekalender, ondanks een circuitrevisie in de winter. Gaetan Vigneron, een ervaren correspondent voor de Belgische omroep RTBF, gaf toe dat de toekomst van de Belgische GP op de lange termijn echter in gevaar is.

Maar er zijn ook voordelen, zei hij. Vigneron: "Rusland staat niet meer op de kalender, Spa-Francorchamps is legendarisch en bovenal is er de Max Verstappen-factor, die ervoor zorgt dat de 'tweede Nederlandse GP' uitverkocht is. De onvoorziene omstandigheden om een contract te ondertekenen zijn economisch, politiek en klimatologisch. Er is veel discussie. De Belgische GP is nog niet verloren, maar het zal best lastig worden."

Waarschuwing F1

F1 CEO Stefano Domenicali waarschuwde deze week echter dat hoewel hij de kalender nog verder wil uitbreiden, bestaande circuits mogelijk van de kalender zullen verdwijnen: "Er zijn races met een lopend contract en andere die aan het einde van hun contract komen. Dit is het geval voor Frankrijk en ook voor België."

Volgens mij is er 3 weken geleden al bekend gemaakt dat ze tot minstens 2025 op de kalender staan, of heb ik iets gemist?

  De recente 15 jarige deal met Saudi-Arabië (jawel, die van de raketbeschietingen, mensenrechten en crashes in betonnen muren) is hier volgens mij ook niet genoemd.

Dan te bedenken dat landen zoals Saudi Arabia en Qatar en Bahrein meer dan 10 jarige deals hebben. Heel idioot dat legendarische circuits dan verdwijnen door dat olie geld.

Als ik moet kiezen tussen Spa of Zandvoort op de F1 kalender, dan kies ik Spa
Bovendien denk ik dat de DutchGP dit jaar weer naar de rechter moet omdat er vanuit milieu organisaties weer onrechtmatigheid in de verleende vergunning wordt aangetoond.
Daarom heeft Zandvoort geen toekomst en het zou het mij positief verbazen als Zandvoort de komende 2 jaar de races mag laten doorgaan van de provincie.
De rechter heeft vorig jaar bepaald dat de race toen mocht doorgaan, maar dat de procedure van de vergunningverlening nog eens tegen het licht moet worden gehouden.

  De doorgang van Spa heeft niets met "kiezen" te maken maar met het feit dat het Waalse circuit al decennia lang financiële problemen heeft en politieke steun nodig heeft om de broek omhoog te kunnen houden en de F1 te mogen organiseren.

  Waarschijnlijk mag de race wel , maar moet zandvoort dan andere dagen inleveren ,betalen andere klasses en vrije trackdagen de prijs.

Als Dominicali Zandvoort niet verlengt en wel gewoon weer naar Saudi-Arabië terug wil gaan dan betekend dat het einde van zijn huidige functie. De man is al in opspraak en dit zal de druppel worden. Ik heb niks met Zandvoort maar dat is toch echt een uithangbord voor de sport geworden.

Geweldige sfeer de afgelopen GP van Zandvoort, maar heel weinig inhalen op de baan. Hopelijk gaat het dit jaar met de nieuwe reglementen beter. Anders blijft het circuit afhankelijk van de 'Max factor'
