Trotse Zhou heeft het zwaar: "Heb mijn familie al een jaar niet gezien"

Alfa Romeo-coureur Guanyu Zhou heeft dit seizoen zijn debuut gemaakt in de Formule 1. De Chinese coureur wordt gezien als een overduidelijk pay driver, hij brengt als eerste Chinees in de sport immers de nodige sponsorcentjes mee. Toch laat hij zien dat hij heus wel een aardig potje kan sturen.

In Bahrein kende hij een spetterend debuut. De Alfa Romeo-coureur reed een lastig race maar profiteerde van problemen bij anderen. Hierdoor kwam hij als tiende over de streep en dat betekende een puntje bij zijn debuut. Bij zijn tweede race in Saoedi-Arabië kende hij een lastig start maar vocht hij zich toch nog terug tot een aardige elfde plek.

Trots

Zhou zelf barst van de ambitie. De puntenscore in Bahrein stemt hem tevreden maar hij wil vanzelfsprekend veel meer bereiken. Tegenover het Italiaanse FormulaPassion spreekt hij zich uit: "Ik ben hier niet om alleen maar mee te doen. Ik wil het zo goed mogelijk doen en mijn land en iedereen die mij steunt zo trots mogelijk maken. Maar eerlijk is eerlijk, het is een fantastisch gevoel om onderdeel te zijn van de sport."

De Chinese coureur heeft zich in de afgelopen jaren omhoog gevochten in de lagere klassen van de sport. Zhou doet er niet moeilijk over, wel geeft hij aan dat het zwaar is. "Het was niet echt een makkelijke reis om hier te komen. Ik kende in de opstapklassen de nodige ups en downs. Ik heb de nodige offers gebracht. Ik heb nooit opgegeven en dat zal ik ook nooit doen. Ik heb mij familie ook al een jaar niet gezien, ik mis ze enorm."

  Dat zijn Chinezen die wonen in een gedeelte van China waarvan die Chinezen vinden dat het geen China is en zichzelf ook geen Chinezen vinden maar waarvan China vindt dat het wel China is maar inderdaad geen echte Chinezen en daarom vervangen moeten worden door echte Chinezen. Of Chinezen die liever zoiets als een democratie hebben.

Kwang joe zoe kent een redelijk goed debuut.
Geen supertalent maar ook niet slechter dan Stroll.
Hij heeft de mannen bij Alfa in ieder geval al in vervoering gebracht. Was het niet vanwege het puntje bij zijn debuut dan toch zeker vanwege zijn vaders geheime recept voor koe loe yuk in zoetzure saus met zelfgemaakt deeg en verse koriander. Een pareltje. Schijnt dat Mick er dol op is en regelmatig met Vasseur een balletje weg prikt.
