DRS voorlopig nog geen verleden tijd: "Kan simpelweg niet"

De nieuwe reglementen die dit jaar zijn ingegaan in de Formule 1 lijken hun vruchten af te werpen. De coureurs kunnen elkaar overduidelijk beter volgen en daarnaast gaat het inhalen ook aanzienlijk makkelijker. De fans en liefhebbers hebben al zeer veel mooie gevechten gezien tijdens de eerste races van het jaar.

Toch zorgen de nieuwe regels ook voor nieuwe vraagstukken. De heren coureurs kunnen elkaar nu aanzienlijk beter inhalen en dat roept vragen op. Men rijdt immers nog steeds rond met de DRS-achtervleugels, het systeem dat de coureurs kunnen gebruiken zodra ze binnen een seconde van de voorganger rijden op de aangegeven punten. Het is de vraag of dit systeem wel toekomst heeft.

Korter

De afgelopen weken vroegen meerdere prominenten zich af of men wel door moet gaan met de DRS. Maar voorlopig is het systeem nog geen geschiedenis. Nikolas Tombazis is het technische kopstuk van de FIA en in gesprek met La Gazzetta dello Sport spreekt hij zich uit: "Het zou goed zijn als we er mee zouden kunnen stoppen. Maar de auto's produceren zoveel belasting en met het effect dat we hier nog steeds hebben kan het simpelweg niet. Maar de DRS-zones kunnen wel korter, inhalen moet niet te makkelijk worden."

Mooier

Vooralsnog is Tombazis in ieder geval tevreden met de ontwikkelingen van de nieuwe reglementen. Het FIA-kopstuk ziet dat de gevechten aan de kop van het veld nog steeds zeer fel en close zijn. "Ik zou het niet raar hebben gevonden als er één team domineerde. We hebben echter een veel mooiere start van het seizoen gezien. Ik verwacht persoonlijk dat er in de komende maanden nog meer teams zich met het gevecht gaan bemoeien."

Ik geloof er niks van dat het niet kan. We zijn met zijn allen gewoon drs verslaafd geworden. Kan mij nog herinneren dat er in de jaren 90 vaak treintjes waren van auto's die elkaar bijna niet in konden halen maar als het dan een keertje lukte stond je echt gelijk op de banken te juichen. Ik geloof er niks van dat het niet kan. We zijn met zijn allen gewoon drs verslaafd geworden. Kan mij nog herinneren dat er in de jaren 90 vaak treintjes waren van auto's die elkaar bijna niet in konden halen maar als het dan een keertje lukte stond je echt gelijk op de banken te juichen. Anno 2022 is een inhaalactie te vaak emotieloos op het rechte stuk omdat er 30 km/u snelheidsverschil is. Ik ben op zich niet tegen drs maar naar mijn mening is de F1 organisatie gewoon heel bang dat het aantal inhaalacties sterk afneemt zonder drs en dat kijkers dan gaan klagen.

  precies dit, het aantal inhaalacties in een race staan niet gelijk eraan of het een goede race is.
  
  De meeste mensen kennen de GP van monaco van 1992. niet om het aantal inhaal acties maar omdat Senna met een mindere wagen, de beter wagen van Mansell ronde na ronde tegenhield. close racing.

  Ik wilde deze gedachte exact typen. Ben het helemaal met je eens. Inhalen zou moeilijk maar haalbaar moeten zijn. Niet zoals nu dat je elkaar niet wol inhalen omdat er een drs zone aankomt

Ik vond het stuivertje wisselen vorige wedstrijd wel aangenaam om te zien.
Al dan niet door eerste- of tweede DRS geholpen.

Het lijkt me lastig uit te bannen inderdaad. Want zoals onze semi-gepensioneerde Olav ooit vertelde : "Er naar toe is één, maar er voorbij...".
En van treintjes kijken is bewezen dat alleen de échte liefhebber het leuk vindt als er dan eindelijk een inhaalactie lukt.
Maar de gemiddelde kijker begon af te haken.
Minder kijkers = minder $$

  @Numnum klopt, tot 2000 was het nog echt voor de liefhebber. Alleen top 6 punten. Geen DRS. Geen Halo. V10. Tanken bij pitstops.

Uit betrouwbare bron met kalend hoofd heb ik vernomen dat men van plan is in Spa ook een DRS zone te maken van de pitstraat. Dit vereist weer een hele nieuwe strategie bij de teams.
