Yuki Tsunoda maakte vandaag voor het eerst kennis met het circuit van Albert Park in Melbourne. De Japanse AlphaTauri-coureur had er nog nooit gereden, in zijn juniorenjaren niet en vorig seizoen stond de race door COVID niet op de agenda. Toch is het niet de eerste keer dat Tsunoda Australië bezoekt.

Op de persconferentie van vrijdagochtend vertelde de Japanner dat hij tien jaar geleden al eens in het land was geweest met een schooltripje. De aanwezig Lewis Hamilton schrok zich een hoedje, hij vroeg Tsunoda of hij het goed had verstaan. De Brit reed tien jaar terug immers al in de Formule 1 terwijl Tsunoda toen nog een gewone leerling was in Japan.
