Albon gediskwalificeerd na brandstofproblemen in kwalificatie

Alexander Albon kende een lastige kwalificatie in Melbourne. De Thaise Brit van Williams kwam niet door de eerste kwalificatiesessie heen en viel daarna ook nog eens stil. Door zijn stilvallen aan het einde van Q1 werd het tweede kwalificatiedeel enkele minuten uitgesteld. Maar de dag werd alleen maar erger voor Albon.

Albon werd door Jo Bauer, het technische kopstuk van de FIA, namelijk doorgestuurd naar de stewards. Bij het onderzoek van de Williams bleek namelijk dat er te weinig brandstof in de bolide zat. Er moet minimaal één liter brandstof in de bolide zitten en bij Albon zat er nog maar 0,33 liter in de bolide.

De stewards waren streng voor de Thai en zijn team Williams. Ze besloten namelijk dat Albon wordt gediskwalificeerd uit de kwalificatie-uitslag. Dat betekent dus dat hij uit de uitslag wordt geschrapt, hij mag echter wel gewoon aan de race beginnen. Het is extra pijnlijk voor Albon aangezien hij ook al een straf meeneemt vanuit de vorige race in Jeddah.
