Ferrari-updates Imola: "Nieuwe diffuser en vloer"

Ferrari neemt hun porpoising-problemen zeer serieus en zal volgens berichten vanuit Italië een upgrade voor Imola hebben om het aan te pakken. Terwijl het F1-seizoen de eerste drie races heeft gehad van dit jaar, is het probleem van het stuiteren bij Mercedes nog altijd niet opgelost. George Russell gelooft dat dit het belangrijkste probleem is dat zijn team tegenhoudt.

Maar bij de Australische Grand Prix leek Ferrari net zo erg te worstelen met porpoising. Het was misschien wel ernstiger dan dat van Mercedes. Qua tempo hield het hen zeker niet tegen; Charles Leclerc pakte de pole position en de overwinning, evenals de snelste ronde en leidde elke ronde van de race, waardoor hij de volledige grand slam wist te pakken.

Desalniettemin wil Ferrari dit probleem niet laten voor wat het is en volgens berichten in de krant Corriere Della Sera is het zich bewust van de ernst ervan. Tijdens de Grand Prix van Emilia Romagna op het beroemde circuit van Imola zal het team uit Maranello komen met upgrades voor onder andere de vloer van de F1-75. Daarnaast wil Ferrari ook een nieuwe diffuser op de wagen zetten. Deze diffuser zou getest zijn tijdens de vrijdag in Australië en bevordert de aerodynamica op de wagen. Het team twijfelt alleen nog of het de nieuwe diffuser al in Imola op de wagen zet, of wacht tot de Spaanse Grand Prix.

Meer vermogen uit de Ferrari-motor

Teambaas Mattia Binotto zei echter dat de updates in Imola niet significant zijn omdat dit het eerste sprintkwalificatieweekend van 2022 is. "Vanwege de sprintrace is het niet het juiste moment en ook niet het geschikte circuit om te experimenteren", zei hij.

Volgens andere berichten is de betrouwbaarheid van de nieuwe motor dermate goed dat het de Italianen in staat heeft gesteld om 5pk extra uit de power unit te halen tijdens het weekend in Albert Park. Dit zou zijn gedaan omdat men voorzag dat Red Bull goed voor de dag zou komen in Australië, maar het is geen zekerheid dat volgende week in Imola wederom het extra vermogen aangesproken zal worden.

Lekker voor Ferrari, deze 'luxe' positie. Terwijl andere teams al ploeterend en zwoegend moeten sleutelen aan de auto om de bestaande problemen op te lossen om überhaupt niet uit te vallen of minder traag te zijn, kan Ferrari gewoon rustig overwegen of ze nu wel of niet updates erop gaan zetten om de huidige 'raket' nog sneller te maken. ;-)

  Ze hebben dan ook een ontwikkelingsvoorsprong gezien de strijd vorig jaar met de andere 2 topteams. Niettemin een schitterend moment waarbij ze maximaal moeten profiteren van de dominante positie waarin ze zich bevinden.
  
  Dat ze dan toch niet de geplande upgrade doen lijkt me heel verstandig. Op 1 uurtje een setup uitwerken op een wagen die je kent of dat doen op een wagen waar je op CFD en similator niet zeker van bent dat het werkt op circuit is spelen met vuur. De schroefjes wat meer open van de PU is een heel goed teken daar ze al de sterkste motor hadden zonder volgens de GPS cijfertjes.
  
  Ik vroeg me al af waarom die lang geplande update hier zou worden uitgebracht, maar het blijft Italië natuurlijk. Het wordt een dubbel feest voor de rooie op dit circuit, dat is toch mijn bescheiden mening. . .

In andere berichtgeving die ik heb gelezen waren ze niet twijfelachtig, maar zouden ze het gewoon niet doen in Imola vanwege maar 1 VT waarin je al gelijk moet focussen op de kwali. Ze lijken het bovendien ook niet nodig te hebben. Volgende race komen ze dus…

  Tja dat is typisch natuurlijk en al zeker in Italiaanse berichtgeving of een gevolg daarvan. Wie weet proberen ze het op 1 wagen en de andere niet . . . enkel Ferrari weet het ;-)

  Vanwege de gunstige karakteristieken van Imola zullen ze het beetje extra vermogen waarschijnlijk ook achterwege laten.
