Coulthard complimenteert Leclerc: "Flashback naar tijden van Schumacher"

Charles Leclerc gaat momenteel ruim aan de leiding van het wereldkampioenschap. De Monegaskische Ferrari-coureur wist twee van de drie eerste races van het seizoen te winnen en profiteerde optimaal van de ongelukkige uitvalbeurten van Max Verstappen. Afgelopen weekend was zijn dominantie in Australië zeer groot.

De Monegask begon de Grand Prix in Melbourne vanaf de pole position en behield de leidende positie zeer simpel bij de start van de wedstrijd. Leclerc reed daarna op redelijk onbedreigde wijze weg bij de concurrentie, alleen bij de tweede herstart verscheen Verstappen in zijn spiegels. Leclerc reed echter gewoon weer weg bij de Nederlander en ondertussen noteerde hij ook nog eventjes de snelste ronde. De Ferrari-coureur won de race en deed dat met een Grand Slam (pole, snelste ronde en alle ronden aan de leiding).

Schumacher

Voormalig coureur en huidig analist David Coulthard schrok zich een hoedje toen hij de dominantie van Leclerc zag. De Schot sprak zich uit bij Channel 4: "Ik kreeg er een beetje koude rillingen van. Ik kreeg een flashback naar de tijd waarin Michael Schumacher zo dominant was in zijn Ferrari. Ik kreeg al mijn angsten terug! We moeten gewoon erkennen dat Leclerc echt een ijzersterkte coureur is. Ook is hij een geweldig mens."

Binotto

Coulthard is over het algemeen zeer complimenteus over Leclercs werkgever Ferrari. De Italiaanse renstal en teambaas Mattia Binotto kunnen rekenen op mooie woorden van de bekende Schot: "Ferrari heeft keihard gewerkt en Mattia Binotto is een koel karakter gebleken onder de druk van de slechte afgelopen twee jaar. Leclerc was hier dominant en hij liet een indrukwekkend staaltje racen zien."

    Natuurlijk is het momenteel genieten als Ferrari fan ... mag het even trouwens?
    We hebben lang genoeg het bittere onderspit moeten delven.

    De Scuderia zit in een prima flow. Het meeste klopt: goed pakket, juiste mentaliteit, sterk en goedwerkende pitwall en pitcrew ... wat een verschil met een tijdje terug.
    Klein smetje waren de problemen bij en met Sainz, maar dat komt wel goed.

    En Leclerc maakt een enorm sterke indruk. Geen gekke dingen, geen "I'm stupid" momentjes (houden zo Charles!) en gewoonweg prima resultaten. Maar om nu weer in 'vergelijkingsmodus' te springen en Leclerc met Schumacher te vergelijken ...goh, mooi compliment voor Leclerc denk ik dan.

    Vettel werd gebombardeerd als de nieuwe 'Schumi' bij de Scuderia...de vergelijking ging zelfs verder...maar we weten allemaal hoe het op een sisser afliep...

    Erhmmm... ik.zou Charles graag complimenteren maar het gaat (vooralsnog) veel.te ver om hem te vergelijken met Der Meister.
    We zijn pas 3 races ver en zijn enige tegenstander is twee keer uitgevallen.
    Die ene andere keer heeft hij zelfs gewonnen.
    Doe dus maar beter eerst eventjes een beer schieten voordat je zijn huid verkoopt.

    @ Catalonië, Vettel kan gewoon niet overweg met de hybride auto’s. Hij heeft er in 2017 en 2018 nog het uiterste uitgeperst en in 2019 kon hij nog partij bieden, maar het blijft zeer opmerkelijk dat een viervoudig WK en super talent er ineens niet meer alles uit kan halen en onbegrijpelijke fouten gaat maken. Daar bleef hij in het verleden ook niet van verschoond, toen hij tegen Webber en Button aan knalde, maar dat werd toen ruimschoots gecompenseerd. Lewis had een rare periode in 2011 en Max in 2018, maar wat Vettel is overkomen is intrigerend. Zou mooi zijn als dat eens tot op de bodem geanalyseerd zou worden. Alonso heeft alleen mindere periodes door mindere auto’s gekend. Die is zelfs nu nog niet versleten. De vergelijking van Charles met Schumacher na één grand slam slaat overigens helemaal nergens op. Dat David’s trauma getriggerd werd snap ik wel, maar zegt meer iets over hem. Ik gun het hem in ieder geval wel en hij bewijst erg goed te zijn, maar denk dat hij het wel aflegt tegen Max als daar de zaakjes op orde zijn. Het is prachtig om Ferrari zo te zien winnen in zo’n beeldschone auto! Forza Ferrari!

    Over een 5 GP's eens kijken, waar staat, Ferrari, Mercedes, Red Bull, dan begint het wel een beetje duidelijk te worden, Ferrari die zijn voor nu echt snel.

    David kan het weten. Het zou zomaar kunnen dat Leclerc ongezien is en dat hij de komende jaren dominant wordt en steeds dominanter.

    Vindt het sinds de lagere klassen al een prachtige racer. Benieuwd naar zijn toekomst!
