Fittipaldi zeer enthousiast over mogelijke komst Volkswagen: "Fantastisch nieuws"

Het begint er steeds meer op te lijken dat de Volkswagen Group-merken Porsche en Audi de Formule 1 gaan betreden. De geruchten gaan al geruime tijd rond maar het lijkt er nu steeds meer op dat deze ook werkelijkheid gaan worden. Een officiële aankondiging ontbreekt nog al ontkennen de merken de interesse niet.

Audi en Porsche zouden de sport dan vanaf 2026, wanneer er nieuwe motorreglementen in gaan, de sport gaan betreden. Porsche zou volgens de nieuwste verhalen nauw gaan samenwerken met he team van Red Bull Racing en over Audi zijn de verhalen wat minder helder. In tegenstelling tot Porsche zou Audi de sport namelijk niet als motorleverancier gaan betreden maar eerder als zelfstandig team. Ze zouden dan een team overnemen, de geruchten hebben het over McLaren, Williams of Alfa Romeo (Sauber).

Fantastisch

De verhalen zijn nog niet officieel maar Formule 1-legende Emerson Fittipaldi is in ieder geval zeer positief. De Braziliaan is tegenover VegasInsider opvallend lovend: "Ik denk dat dit één van de beste nieuwtjes over de Formule 1 is van het afgelopen jaar. Als een grote autobouwer zoals Volkswagen de sport betreedt, dan is dat fantastisch nieuws. Ik weet zeker dat ze nieuwe uitdagingen meebrengen."

Serieus

De legendarische Fittipaldi denkt dat de komst van twee nieuwe motorleveranciers zeer goed nieuws is voor de koningsklasse van de autosport. De Braziliaan ziet een groot succes voor zich: "Ze zullen zich zeer serieus richten op dit project om succesvol te zijn. Ze zullen veel geld investeren en nieuwe mensen meebrengen. Ik denk dat dit goed nieuws is voor de sport, het publiek en de racefans. De Formule 1 heeft meer competitieve teams nodig."

Seidl, Capito en Dominicalli zie ik als vooruitgeschoven posten van Audi/Porsche. Ik hoop dat McLaren en Williams als iconen behouden zullen blijven. Samenwerking oké, maar geen overname. Laat Audi maar een nieuw AutoUnion team oprichten om de jaren ‘30 te doen herleven met Mercedes en een sterk Alfa Romeo.

Ik moet het nog zien gebeuren, eerlijk gezegd. En Audi als motorleverancier in de F1 geloof ik eigenlijk nog minder, want vanaf 2026 zijn alle nieuwe Audi's elektrisch en vanaf 2033 stoppen ze helemaal met verbrandingsmotoren. Alleen Porsche heeft te kennen gegeven wel langdurig door te gaan met verbrandingsmotoren.

  Heb ooit in het rennerskwartier aan dezelfde lunchtafel gezeten als Fittipaldi (en Lauda) en toen kwam hij (en Niki) heel vriendelijk over en als hij lachte was het verre van een boze meneer…
