Sainz roept op tot roulatiesysteem: "Groot verlies als we klassiekers verliezen"

De Formule 1-kalender voor de komende jaren begint steeds voller te worden. Tijdens de afgelopen maanden heeft de Formule 1 bijvoorbeeld trots aangekondigd per volgend jaar naar Las Vegas te trekken. Ook Qatar, Imola en China staan de aankomende jaren op de kalender en langzamerhand begint deze vol te raken.

De kalender mag maximaal 25 raceweekenden tellen maar veel mensen vinden dat aantal al te veel. Het lijkt erop dat Formule 1-eigenaar Liberty Media nog lang niet klaar is met het toevoegen van nieuwe wedstrijden. Hierdoor komen enkele klassieke Grands Prix onder druk te staan. Volgens het geruchtencircuit moeten bijvoorbeeld Spa, Paul Ricard en zelfs Monaco vrezen vo hun plekje.

Limiet

Vooral de circuits van Spa en Monaco gaan veel coureurs aan het hart. Ook Ferrari-coureur Carlos Sainz ziet klassiekers het liefst niet verdwijnen. De Spanjaard wordt geciteerd door Motorsportweek: "Ik denk dat er een limiet moet worden gesteld aan het aantal races dat we toevoegen. Dus uiteindelijk gaan enkele andere races de prijs betalen. Ik ben natuurlijk groot fan van de plannen voor Miami en Vegas maar ik zou het een groot verlies vinden als we de klassieke Europese races verliezen."

Compromis

Sainz hoopt dan ook dat er voor deze spagaat snel een oplossing wordt gevonden. De Spaanse Ferrari-coureur is de moeilijkste niet en heeft zelf ook al nagedacht over de problemen. "Hopelijk kunnen we in de toekomst een compromis vinden. Dan kunnen races die het niet voor elkaar kunnen krijgen om elk jaar op de kalender staan misschien elke twee of drie jaar een race organiseren."

Ik heb wel eens het gevoel dat veel nieuwere F1 fans de historische waarde van Spa-Francorchamps, Monza en Monaco niet onderkennen en deze Grand-Prix' moeiteloos zouden vervangen door andere landen met nieuwe Tilke baantjes.
In mijn ogen moet de Formule 1 zijn aloude identiteit/dna zoveel mogelijk behouden en daar horen ook historische circuits bij die al 70 jaar of langer op de kalender staan. Veel is al verdwenen maar laten we het restant wat er nog wel is behouden voor de Formule 1.

  Meen eens. Spa, Monza, Suzuka, Monte Carlo en Silverstone zouden, als het aan mij ligt, altijd op de kalender staan. Liefst nog permanent een race in Duitsland erbij en Imola en Circuit Gilles Villeneuve mogen van mij ook wel blijven.
  
  Als er te weinig plaats is op de kalender dan kunnen nieuwe circuits ook rouleren. Laat nieuwe locaties eerst maar bewijzen dat ze van waarde zijn voor de F1-kalender.

  @NBS; Tsja. Wij kijken naar de mooie circuits en Liberty kijkt naar $$$$$$. Overigens zal ik Monaco geen seconde missen, als het droog is gebeurd daar toch niks. Maar; handjes af van Spa, Monza, Silverstone, Canada, Suzuka, Austin, Mexico en Brazilië.

Ik vrees voor zo'n FE kalender over 10 jaar, met parkeerterreinbaantjes in grote steden waar het grote geld zit. Die Amerikanen geven weinig om Europese historie, en ik zie ze het nog wel een keer verpatsen aan een Saoedi Arabië of een Qatar voor 10-15 miljard.
