Sainz zag crash niet aankomen: "Ik kreeg geen waarschuwing"

Het team van Ferrari wilde vandaag voor het thuispubliek op Imola laten zien wat ze in hun mars hebben. De plannen werden echter gedwarsboomd door Max Verstappen én hun eigen coureur Carlos Sainz. De Spanjaard gooide vroeg in Q2 zijn eigen ruiten in en crashte redelijk hard.

Sainz had net zijn eerste rondetijd van de sessie gezet. Zijn team gaf hem de instructie om nog een snel rondje te noteren, er kwam immers meer regen aan. De Spaanse coureur maakte een klein foutje maar Imola is niet vergevingsgezind. Hij crashte fors en moest zijn kwalificatie afsluiten in de muur, een fikse teleurstelling want de snelheid was zeker aanwezig.

Banker lap

Na afloop van zijn kwalificatie was Sainz dan ook zeer ontevreden. De balende Spanjaard zat echter nog wel met een aardige hoeveelheid vragen. Tegenover de internationale media sprak hij zich uit: "Het is frustrerend. Het was de bedoeling om een banker lap neer te zetten omdat we de regen zagen aankomen. Ik was helemaal niet hard aan het pushen. De auto verraste mij echt in die bocht. Het is overduidelijk dat de baanomstandigheden heel erg lastig zijn."

Waarschuwing

Eventjes later meldde Sainz zich ook voor de camera van het Britse Sky Sports. De Spanjaard was ook hier enorm teleurgesteld over zijn eigenlijk resultaat. De Ferrari-coureur was met stomheid geslagen: "Het was geen rondje dat op de limiet was. Maar jammer genoeg verloor ik de auto. Ik kreeg helemaal geen waarschuwing. Ik denk niet dat ik mijzelf blootstelde aan een foutje."

Hij reed wel heel erg over de verf... Nu weet ik niet of de verf hier hetzelfde is als Paul Ricard, dat juist meer grip schijnt te geven, maar normaal gesproken verf best wel glad om over heen te rijden. Ach morgen een sterke sprintrace rijden dan is er nog niks verloren.

  Als je over Sikkens verf rijdt was dit nooit gebeurd,aldus mijn maat die vertegenwoordiger is bij Sikkens verf.

  Weet je zeker dat het de verf was, TylaHunter? Mij leek het dat hij te hard de bocht in ging. Goed. Ik ga het morgen eens goed bekijken.

  Vergeleken met de ronde ervoor stuurde Sainz later in en had ook meer stuuruitslag. Sainz smeet de wagen de laatste bocht in en de wagen ging ook direct in een spin nog ruim voordat hij bij apex van de bocht was. Dat is niet omdat hij teveel snelheid had in de bocht. Sainz nam hier veel te veel risico wat echt helemaal nergens voor nodig was want hij had makkelijk door Q2 kunnen komen.

  In mijn auto gaat er meestal een lampje brandje dat ESP aan het werk in.
  
  Misschien wilt Sainz zoiets in de wagen. 😅

Het is duidelijk dat Sainz de kale uitvoering heeft, Leclerc krijgt dit soort meldingen wel.
