Sainz houdt vertrouwen: "Als ik meer vertrouwen krijg ga ik echt sneller"

Het team van Ferrari is met Charles Leclerc sterk aan het seizoen begonnen. De Monegask wist te winnen in Bahrein en Australië en lijkt zich op te kunnen maken voor een strijd met Max Verstappen. De andere Ferrari-coureur Carlos Sainz kent vooralsnog echter een nogal moeizame periode.

De Spanjaard begon nog zeer sterk aan het seizoen. In de eerste twee races in Bahrein en Saoedi-Arabië eindigde Sainz immers nog gewoon op het podium. In Australië ging het echter mis en spinde hij in de eerste ronde, zijn foutje had gevolgen want zijn Ferrari stond muurvast in de grindbak. Ook afgelopen weekend ging het weer mis. Op het vochtige Imola werd Sainz in de eerste chicane aangetikt door Daniel Ricciardo en eindigde zijn race wederom in het grind.

McLaren

Sainz zelf blijft echter sterk in zijn schoenen staan. De Ferrari-coureur wil niet bij de pakken neer gaan zitten en valt terug op zijn ervaringen uit het verleden. De Spanjaard wordt geciteerd door Motorsportweek: "Ik denk dat ik in mijn beide seizoenen voor McLaren ook elke keer een zware start van het seizoen had. Daarna had ik echter drie hele goede kwarten. Je krijgt echt altijd betere periodes en je komt altijd in periodes terecht waar dingen niet jou kant oprollen."

Vertrouwen

Sainz denkt dan ook dat het succes er snel weer zal zijn. Hij heeft er veel vertrouwen in en ziet dat zijn Ferrari de snelheid heeft om tot dat succes te komen: "Ik heb er vertrouwen in dat ik de situatie weer heel erg snel kan gaan omdraaien. Tijdens deze laatste weekenden in Australië en Imola was er wel snelheid. Ik had ook vertrouwen. Als ik een stapje meer vertrouwen krijg in de auto, dan ga ik echt sneller."

Sainz heeft nu gezien dat Leclerc niet onfeilbaar is dit seizoen. Dat zal hem zelfvertrouwen geven voor de komende races en mag Leclerc ook een keer de achterkant van een Ferrari gaan bekijken.

Sainz is een goede coureur. Goed in kwalificatie-modus.... als er niett teveel vóór hem gebeurt.
Voor de race zef..?... Nee. Hij is best goed , maar hoe vaak is hij verdwaald ?

  Ik vond Sainz juist in de races goed, vooral vorig jaar.
  Incident afgelopen race kan Sainz amper aangerekend worden. Was pech dat Ricciardo hem omtikte, en dan is grind onvergeeflijk. Melbourne was zijn enige echte fout dit seizoen. Te gehaast plekken willen goedmaken en dan in de grindbak eindigen.
  Ik dicht Sainz nog veel races toe waarbij hij op het podium zal staan.

Vertrouwen kweek je vanzelf door veel rondjes af te leggen in de auto, en dat krijg je niet voor elkaar als je iedere race in de eerste ronde eraf stuitert.

Sainz is een heel goeie coureur, maar op dit moment kan hij zich beter focussen op het uitrijden van races. Laat die mooie gast maar aan de horizon verdwijnen nu, dat haal je niet zomaar meer in.

Dit lag niet aan Sainz en het is belachelijk dat Ricciardo daar geen straf voor kreeg. Ik snap best dat ze bij de opening van de race wat meer contact accepteren, maar dit contact kwam niet doordat Ricciardo nergens meer heen kon, maar puur doordat hij een mogelijk uitgangspunt voor de volgende bocht niet wilde opgeven. Sainz' race wordt vervolgens niet alleen verpest; hij kan niet eens door.
