Berger ziet mogelijke Ferrari-problemen: "Sainz niet klaar voor tweede plaats"

De teams van Ferrari en Red Bull Racing maken vooralsnog de dienst uit in de Formule 1. Beide teams wonnen twee races en hun kopmannen Charles Leclerc en Max Verstappen pakten die zeges. Beide coureurs lijken dan ook de kopmannen van de teams te zijn.

Regerend wereldkampioen Verstappen is overduidelijk de kopman van Red Bull. Maar bij Ferrari wil niemand het woord 'kopman' in de mond nemen. Wel gaf teambaas Mattia Binotto meermaals aan dat hij van mening is dat Ferrari over het beste rijderspaar van het veld beschikt. Leclerc gaat momenteel aan de leiding van het wereldkampioenschap en eindigde in drie van de vier races op het podium. Zijn teamgenoot Carlos Sainz viel op zijn beurt tweemaal uit.

De uitspraken van Binotto over het rijderspaar zijn niet nieuw. De teambaas herhaalde ze vorige week nog maar eens toen Sainz zijn contract bij het team verlengde. Ook oud-coureur Gerhard Berger kan het wel begrijpen. Berger is glashelder in gesprek met Speedweek: "Dat is wat je zegt in die situatie, het maakt dan niet uit wat je daadwerkelijk denkt. Nu je de tweede coureur een langdurig contract hebt gegeven moet je dat natuurlijk even onderstrepen."

Problemen

Berger denkt dan ook dat Red Bull op dit gebied veel verder is dan de Italiaanse concurrentie. De DTM-chef ziet namelijk dat Red Bull de slagvolgorde overduidelijk op orde heeft: "Perez heeft zich als teamplayer echt enorm verbeterd. In tegenstelling tot Sainz kent hij zijn situatie. Sainz heeft nog steeds de ambitie om te vechten voor de nummer 1 plek bij Ferrari. Het gaat niet lukken voor hem, hij kan er niets aan doen. Ferrari kan daar problemen meekrijgen, Sainz is nog niet klaar voor de tweede plaats."

  De berichten staan hier in de verkeerde volgorde. Perez had deze uitspraak van Berger al gehoord en dacht "ha, ik zal die Berger leren zomaar wat over mij te zeggen!" Maar dit was gewoon een grapje van Perez. ;)

Ik denk eerder dat het veel simpeler is: Verstappen is veel beter dan Perez maar LeClerc en Sainz zitten veel dichter bij elkaar.

De situatie van Sainz en Perez is onvergelijkbaar. Carlos kende een andere ‘aanvliegroute’ naar seizoen 2022 dan Checo.

Carlos haalde in 2021 meer punten dan Charles. Dat kun je scorebordjournalistiek noemen maar dat blijft wel hangen en werkt door.
Sergio was in 2021 duidelijk de mindere van Max en heeft het 2e viool spelen allang verwerkt…
