Kamui Kobayashi is dit jaar de ervaren man bij Sauber. Opvallend, aangezien de Japanner net één volledig seizoen in de Formule 1 achter zijn naam heeft staan, maar hij vertolkt zijn rol met verve. Kobayashi wordt op deze manier in rap tempo volwassen.

Ik heb meer zelfvertrouwen dit jaar, begint de Japanner tegenover Autosport. Ik heb mijn aanpak moeten veranderen omdat ik nu de coureur met de meeste ervaring binnen het team ben. Het was niet makkelijk, maar ik heb mijn best gedaan om het team continu te verbeteren en het gaat heel anders dan vorig jaar. Het team is vrij stabiel. De afgelopen twee weekenden verliepen minder, maar over het algemeen ben ik wel tevreden.

Ik heb vrij veel vertrouwen, onder alle omstandigheden. We focussen ons op punten scoren. Daar was ik de afgelopen twee races niet toe in staat en die trend willen we een halt toeroepen. Onze progressie tot dusver is goed. Ten opzichte van vorig jaar gaat het beter, maar de volgende stap zetten is lastig. Al met al gaat het heel behoorlijk.
