Netflix en Formule 1 verlengen contract, twee nieuwe seizoenen Drive to Survive

De Formule 1 heeft de afgelopen jaren flink aan populariteit gewonnen. Wereldwijd is het aantal fans enorm gegroeid en men heeft eindelijk voet aan wal gekregen in de Verenigde Staten. De groeiende populariteit heeft vanzelfsprekend meerdere redenen maar de Netflix-serie 'Drive to Survive' heeft er zeker een grote rol bij gespeeld.

Aan het begin van dit jaar verscheen het vierde seizoen van de show op de streamingsdienst. De serie was een enorm succes en volgens de Formule 1 stond de reeks in 56 landen in de wekelijkse top tien. Maar enkele maanden lang was er niets duidelijk over de toekomst van de serie, een aankondiging bleef namelijk geruime tijd uit.

Nieuw contract

Gisteravond kwam men echter met duidelijkheid. De Formule 1 en Netflix maakten namelijk bekend dat het contract met twee jaar is verlengd. Dat betekent dat er dus een vijfde en zesde seizoen van de reeks volgen. De camera's van Netflix zijn dus ook dit jaar weer aanwezig in de paddock om de (meeste) coureurs en teams op de voet te volgen. De serie wordt ook in de komende seizoenen geproduceerd door de gerenommeerde James Gay-Rees en Paul Martin.

Kritiek

De Netflix-serie kreeg in de afgelopen jaren ook veelvuldig te maken met kritiek. Niet elke coureur wil namelijk meewerken aan de productie. Regerend wereldkampioen Max Verstappen wil namelijk niet meewerken aan de serie omdat hij het niet eens is met hoe de coureurs in beeld worden gebracht. Netflix gaat immers nogal creatief om met de waarheid en plakt regelmatig boordradio's onder andere situaties. Tevens worden er soms niet bestaande rivaliteiten gecreëerd door de streamingsdienst.

  Je hoeft niet te kijken en ik denk dat de meeste mensen die wat meer met de sport hebben dan de gemiddelde kijker er ook niet naar kijken. Maar dat wil niet zeggen dat het niet goed is voor de F1.

  Ik vind het wel vermakelijk en heb alle seizoenen gekeken. Kom maar door met de volgende twee. Dat er soms gedramatiseerd wordt, dat weet ik. En daarom leg ik altijd een korrel zout op tafel neer voordat ik weer een aflevering kijk. ;-)

That reminds me...
Ik heb de huidige serie nog niet afgekeken.
Wie komt er dan ook een week voor de start met zo'n serie op de proppen?
Ik laat het hierbij.
De volgende DTS ga ik niet meer kijken.
De start van het echte seizoen is veel leuker!

  Ik heb alleen de laatste aflevering gekeken. Met een grimmige Toto die als een James Bond schurk oogt en klinkt: "everybody has a target on their backs next year".

  Evert, ik had alle afleveringen op m'n Ipad gedownload. Maandje terug moest ik naar Australië waar ik ook de race heb gekeken daar, tijdens dat eindeloze stuk vliegen is DTS dan prima tijdsverdrijf ;-)
