Latifi hekelt Piastri-geruchten: "Realiseer me dat mijn resultaten niet goed zijn"

Williams-coureur Nicholas Latifi beleeft niet de sterkste seizoenstart uit zijn loopbaan. De Canadees heeft moeite in het achterveld en stond al meermaals in de muur. Daarnaast moet Latifi aardig wat terrein toegeven op zijn nieuwe teamgenoot Alexander Albon. Inmiddels gaan er ook allerlei geruchten rond over zijn toekomst.

Latifi's positie bij Williams zou namelijk ernstig onder druk staan. Er gaan dan ook hardnekkig geruchten rond over een hoog aangeschreven vervanger. Er gaan namelijk verhalen rond over Oscar Piastri, de Australische regerend Formule 2-kampioen zou Latifi moeten gaan vervangen. Piastri is momenteel reservecoureur bij het team van Alpine en zou dan worden uitgeleend aan Williams.

Ergeren

Latifi ergert zich op zijn beurt enorm aan alle geruchten die rond gaan. De Canadees weerspreekt vanzelfsprekend de verhalen over zijn persoontje en Piastri. Tegenover het Canadese medium Le Journal de Montreal is hij glashelder: "Je moet geen aandacht geven aan alles wat er over mij wordt geschreven. Ik ben niet de enige die deze behandeling krijgt. Maar ik realiseer mij ook dat mijn resultaten niet zo sterk zijn. Ik moet meer doen."

Vertrouwen

Desondanks de verhalen en zijn prestaties wil Latifi zich weer laten zien. De Canadees wil graag zo snel mogelijk weer goed voor de dag komen. "Het is ook een zaak van vertrouwen. Ik weet vrijwel zeker dat net zo snel kan rijden als Alexander. Zijn leertijd achter het stuur van de nieuwe auto was ook nog eens veel korter."

Latifi is gewoon niet goed genoeg voor de F1. Punt. Het is een aardige gozer, maar ik zou me, als ik hem was, toch behoorlijk mijn ogen uit mijn kop schamen. Al zoveel jaar houd hij een plek bezet waar een echt getalenteerde coureur kan rijden. Dat lijkt me ook geen goed gevoel voor hem. Hopelijk houd hij de eer aan zichzelf! Hij is inmiddels door elke teamgenoot riant verslagen en zelfs wanneer hij in het voordeel had moeten zijn, dan bakte hij er nog niks van!

  Dit is zijn derde jaar? Ben de tel even kwijt. Maar inderdaad rijdt hij slechter dan een rookie op het moment.
  Ben wel een beetje fan van hem om zijn karakter. Maar het wordt tijd dat hij overstapt naar formule E of zo,

  Latifi heeft mij nog nooit verwonderd. Niet in F2 en niet in F1. Zijn puntenscores zit dan ook een flinke dosis geluk aan verbonden en zijn lange ervaring F2 met veel chaotische races. (Hongarije was praktisch net een F2 race reversed grid)

Piastri verdient een kans. Latifi kan zich beter op andere raceklassen richten. De F1 is te hoog gegrepen voor hem.

Hij geeft het in ieder geval nog toe dat hij het niet al te best doet. Dat siert hem. Kunnen een aantal anderen nog een voorbeeld aan nemen. Alleen daarom mag hij van mij nog wel even blijven en knikkeren we een andere no-no eruit.

Zou Piastri graag zo snel mogelijk in de F1 zien. Die heeft tot nu toe alles en iedereen op een hoopje gereden en hoort er gewoon in thuis.
