Russell toont zich opgewekt: "Auto loopt goed maar het is pas de vrijdag"

Het team van Mercedes revancheerde zich gister op een sterke wijze in Miami. In de vrije trainingen waren de zilverpijlen ineens een stuk sneller dan tijdens de voorgaande weekenden. De wagens van George Russell en Lewis Hamilton hadden nog steeds last van porpoising maar de snelheid leek terug te zijn.

In de tweede training was Russell zelfs sneller dan de concurrentie van Red Bull Racing en Ferrari. De Brit noteerde dan ook de snelste tijd en dat was een flinke opsteker voor de regerend constructeurskampioen. Ook Russells teamgenoot Hamilton kende een goede dag en de glimlach was terug bij de renstal.

Vrijdag

Russell was na afloop van de trainingen een tevreden man. Hij was dan ook opgewekt toen hij in Miami Gardens bij de internationale media verscheen. Bij zijn landgenoten van Sky Sports sprak hij zich overduidelijk uit: "We wisten dat de warme omstandigheden in Miami beter bij ons zouden passen. We hadden tijdens eerdere races problemen met het op temperatuur krijgen van de banden, dus dat is hier een grote factor. De auto loopt goed maar het is nog maar vrijdag."

Porpoising

Ondanks de voorzichtige woorden van de talentvolle Brit, is het vertrouwen wel langzaam aan het terugkomen. Russell is opvallend opgewekt: 'Het is waarschijnlijk de meest productieve vrijdag van ons, als je het hebt over bijleren tenminste. We weten dat porpoising altijd een probleem zal zijn. Maar misschien werkt het hier op een lagere range vergeleken met de circuit waar wij eerder heen zijn gegaan."

Ik zou het best leuk vinden als Russell hier wint. En dus niet omdat ik tégen Leclerc of tégen Verstappen ben, maar omdat ik meer spanning in het kampioenschap als groot F1 fan alleen maar aan kan moedigen.

Precies het is pas vrijdeg, maar wat zou het mooi zijn als Mercedes daar in dat Miami alles en iedereen met een één tweetje en dan ook nog met Ferrari als derde en vierde de oren wast.

  Ik wordt wel een beetje mooi van dat modder gooien over en weer. Hamilton fans die hopen dat Verstappen faalt en Verstappen fans die hopen dat Hamilton faalt. Dat soort "voetbalgedrag" mag van mij echt opzouten.
  Juich gewoon je eigen favoriete coureur en/of team. Want zo kon het vroeger, en kan het nu nog steeds ook!

  Sluit me graag aan bij Damon hier hoewel het voor mij niet uitmaakt wie wint. Zou het gewoon geweldig vinden dat het gaat om een strijd tussen 3 teams en 6 piloten
  
  Velen gaven hier aan dat Mercedes niet "zomaar" alles zou kunnen wegwerken terwijl zij zelf altijd hebben gezegd dat het wel een ferme uitdaging is maar geen die ze uit de weg gaan. Hun long runs zagen er behoorlijk goed uit en in Q trim zullen ze mogelijk nog geen partij zijn voor de 2 teams vooraan. Niettegenstaande is het een mooi vooruitzicht voor de volgende races en het WK. We zijn nu slechts R5/23 - er is en gaat nog van alles gebeuren!
  
  De kwaadtongen daar heb ik het ook helemaal niet voor. Na vorig seizoen vind ik het hier wel een stuk verbeterd, maar vermoed dat dit snel kan veranderen als de mercs voorin gaan meespelen. Respect voor alle teams en rijders was eigen aan F1 en dat is wat aan t verwateren.
  
  Dank daarom Damon om mee aan die kar te trekken van het "pure" en onbezoedelde genieten!
