Shovlin vol goede moed: "Eerste resultaten zagen er interessant uit"

Het team van Mercedes lijkt in Miami de weg omhoog te hebben ingezet. De Duitse regerend constructeurskampioen had een lastige seizoenstart en had een stevige achterstand op Ferrari en Red Bull Racing. Op de vrijdag in Miami leek alles weer als vanouds te gaan en was de snelheid aanwezig.

Vooral George Russell kende een goede eerste dag op het gloednieuwe circuit in Miami Gardens. De Brit reed de tweede tijd in de eerste vrije training, in de tweede training was hij zelfs de snelste. Ook teamgenoot Lewis Hamilton had een aardige dag en reed een achtste tijd in VT1 en een vierde tijd in de tweede training.

Updates

Bij Mercedes was men gisteren dan ook relatief tevreden na de eerste twee trainingen. Mercedes-kopstuk Andrew Shovlin keek na afloop van de eerste twee sessies terug in een persbericht van het Duitse team: "We hebben een paar aerodynamische updates doorgevoerd die we nog steeds beoordelen. Maar over het algemeen lijkt het erop dat we aardig wat progressie hebben gemaakt. Op het gebied van de set-up hebben we in de loop van de dag het één en ander vergeleken tussen de auto's. De eerste resultaten zagen er interessant uit."

Temperatuur

Shovlin en consorten willen echter niet te vroeg juichen. Vanmiddag draait het er in Miami immers pas echt om. Shovlin blijft echter wel positief gestemd: "We gaan meer analyseren voordat we beslissen wat we morgen gaan doen. We kunnen nog heel erg veel verbeteren met de balans en de banden kunnen hier ook nog eens oververhitten. De sessies zijn hier midden op de dag, dan is het heel erg warm. Dus de temperatuur van de achterbanden onder controle houden is lastig. Dat zijn dan ook de dingen waar wij ons het meeste op focussen."

dat is straks gewoon weer 1/2/3/4 voor de stieren en de paarden hoor. ze verbeteren inderdaad. maar ik zie al veel mensen veel te vroeg juichen.

Gezien waar ze vandaan kwamen ziet het er gewoon erg goed uit. Het lijkt mij een basis voor upgrades. En we hebben vorig jaar gezien hoe goed Mercedes was in het verbeteren van de mercedes.

Het lijkt game on te gaan worden voor Mercedes.

  Dat en de neerzakkende achterwiel ophanging en de flex vleugel die alleen flexte op de punten waar niet werd gemeten. Je doet Mercedes te kort. Ze verdienden vorig jaar het WCC.

  Alleen de raketmotor? Werd die auto na de zomer zo stabiel door de motor? Als je de onboards bekijkt dat zie je dat die W12 gewoon echt veel beter op de weg lag na de zomer en dat kwam niet door de motor.

Het zegt allemaal nog helemaal niets. Het waren rommelige sessies met veel verkeer en rode vlaggen op een hele aparte baan. Ik heb de Red Bulls en Ferrari's af zien breken na paarse sectoren. Ook zit de hele top 11 binnen een seconde hier. Als ze het hier goed doen hebben ze een stapje gemaakt. Als ze er in Barcelona bijzitten kunnen ze nog meedoen voor de titel. Ik geloof niet dat ze er in Barcelona bijzitten. Ik laat me echter graag verassen. Dan word het nog een gek seizoen.
