'Freitas maakt in Barcelona zijn debuut als Formule 1-wedstrijdleider'

Sinds dit seizoen werkt de Formule 1 met twee wedstrijdleiders. Niels Wittich en Eduardo Freitas werden voorafgaand het huidige seizoen aangesteld als vervangers van de ontslagen Michael Masi. De twee wedstrijdleiders zouden elkaar gaan afwisselen maar vooralsnog heeft alleen Wittich gefungeerd als race director.

Maar het lijkt erop dat Freitas bij de Spaanse Grand Prix zijn lang verwachte debuut als wedstrijdleider in de Formule 1 gaat maken. Autosport meldt dat de Portugees de touwtjes in handen heeft en dat hij ook in Monaco de wedstrijdleider is. Wittich zal in die races fungeren als zijn rechterhand. In Azerbeidzjan is Freitas dan weer afwezig.

Freitas is namelijk ook nog steeds actief als de wedstrijdleider van het WEC. De Azerbeidzjaanse Grand Prix valt samen met de legendarische 24 uur van Le Mans en Freitas zal daar de rol van wedstrijdleider op zich nemen. Bij afwezigheid van Freitas worden zijn Formule 1-werkzaamheden waargenomen door Colin Haywood. Afgelopen weekend was Freitas ook afwezig door een clash met de WEC-kalender.
