Williams dankt Albon: "Hij is een fantastische racer"

Het team van Williams is beter dan verwacht begonnen aan het huidige seizoen. De bolide van de Britse renstal presteert nogal wisselvallig maar toch wist nieuwe coureur Alexander Albon al tweemaal punten te scoren. De Thaise Brit sprokkelde zijn punten binnen in Australië en Miami.

Albon moest voor die twee puntenfinishes tweemaal een sterke inhaalrace rijden. In Australië besloot men zelfs over te gaan op een gewaagde strategie die hem een puntje bezorgde. Albons prestaties zijn knap, ook als men in het achterhoofd houdt dat de kwalificaties van hem en zijn teamgenoot Nicholas Latifi regelmatig enorm tegenvallen voor het team uit Grove.

Fantastisch

Bij het team van Williams is men zich bewust van het feit dat de kwalificaties vaak flink tegenvallen. Teambaas Jost Capito denkt namelijk dat de slechte zaterdagen de goede zondagen overschaduwen. Capito spreekt zich uit tegenover Motorsport.com: "Het is best lastig om punten te pakken als je je als achttiende of negentiende kwalificeert. Dan heb je dan ook ook geduld nodig voordat je iets gebeurt. De racepace van onze wagen is echt heel goed. Alex had in Miami opnieuw uitmuntend gepresteerd. Hij heeft bewezen dat hij een fantastische racer is. We kunnen qua racepace mee met het middenveld, de kwalificaties moeten gewoon beter."

Onderdelen

Het team van Williams kan nu tevens op volle oorlogssterkte presteren. De legendarische Britse renstal kampte namelijk met een aardig tekort aan reserveonderdelen nadat Latifi een aantal harde crashes had. Capito is echter hoopvol: "We hadden tijd nodig om die nieuwe onderdelen te produceren. Nu is de situatie wel op orde. Het was lastig om in Miami geen schade te rijden maar we zijn schadeloos en met punten teruggekeerd. Dat is echt veel meer dan we hadden gehoopt."

Ah het stukje waarom de kwalificaties niet zo goed waren komt dus nog in het volgende artikel. Ok.

Het gaat steeds beter met het Williams team. Organisatie technisch hebben ze het steeds met op rit, sponsors Duracell en B&O zijn nu aangesloten bij het team nu nog de laatste stap en dat is afscheid nemen van Latifi en dan rustig verder gaan bouwen.

Als fan van het team ben ik blij dat er weer een toekomst is.

Die Alex Abon en ook Piere Casly blijken helemaal niet zulke slechte coureurs te zijn. Dat konden ze pas echt laten zien nadat ze zich zonder de te grote druk en minder goede begeleiding van Red Bull zichzelf konden gaan ontwikkelen en bewijzen.
Ook kunnen we inmiddels wel voorzichtig concluderen dat die eens zo geroemde Red Bull Raceacademie helemaal niet zoveel voorstelt.

  De race- academie had maar een doel: de volgende wereldkampioen vinden. Daar zijn ze in geslaagd. In de F1 kan je geen race-academie runnen omdat sowieso het verloop te traag is. Kennelijk geloofde jij daar wel in?
